Hon. Wasiu Adesina, the outgoing Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, has been praised for his outstanding commitment to educational development throughout his tenure by Master AbdulAzeez Abdulrahman, the 2024 One-Day Governor of Lagos State and an alumnus of Oriwu Senior Model College, in a heartwarming display of appreciation and impact.
Abdulrahman, now a medical student at Lagos State University (LASU), gave the commendation on Friday, July 18, 2025, at the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat Conference Room during an official ceremony where 50 indigent students from Ikorodu were awarded bursaries of forty thousand naira each, totaling ₦2 million.
The event also featured the presentation of a ₦1 million cheque to Abdulrahman himself, fulfilling a personal pledge made by Hon. Adesina during the One-Day Governor celebration in 2024.
In his remarks, Abdulrahman stated:
“I’ve attended a lot of educational programs, and I must say that the chairman is a visionary leader.”
“Hon. Adesina’s passion for education is beyond what we’ve ever thought or imagined. I pray that he will continue to grow higher even after leaving office.”
The One-Day Governor described Hon. Adesina’s administration as one that prioritized education beyond expectations and lauded his consistent support for student growth, community schools, and academic empowerment.
While addressing guests at the ceremony, Hon. Wasiu Adesina reiterated his belief in the power of education as a tool for societal advancement.
“This cash presentation is not just an event; it is a promise made and a promise kept. Education has always been at the forefront of my administration because it is the foundation for a better future,” he said.
The bursary scheme, according to the local government, is part of a broader social intervention program aimed at reducing the financial burden on families and encouraging academic excellence among Ikorodu youths.
Community leaders, parents, students, and education stakeholders present at the event applauded the chairman for his consistent support of education and youth development throughout his term.
As Hon. Wasiu Adesina prepares to leave office, the testimonies and impact of his educational policies continue to resonate across Ikorodu, cementing his legacy as a grassroots leader with a lasting vision for human capital development.
