The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, unveiled his official biography and account of stewardship titled “Providence: A Journey of Honour.” This historic and emotionally resonant ceremony took place on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

The twin ceremony, held at Aquilla Hall, within the Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat, marked the culmination of eight remarkable years in office—from 2017 to 2025—defined by visionary leadership, infrastructural development, and inclusive governance.

The occasion drew a distinguished gathering of traditional rulers, political leaders, market stakeholders, and residents, all assembled to celebrate a man widely praised for his integrity, commitment, and developmental strides.

Authored by renowned writer Mark C. Orgu, the biography captures the governance journey of Hon. Adesina, offering a comprehensive record of landmark projects and policy milestones.

From road rehabilitation and healthcare expansion to educational reform, youth empowerment, and market modernization, the publication serves as a living archive of grassroots transformation in Ikorodu.

Described as “a leadership blueprint” by Mr. Joe Ejiofor, who gave an insightful review during the event, the book is intended to inspire future leaders and provide a credible reference point for effective governance.

Setting the tone for the event, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and Chairman of the Day, commended Hon. Adesina’s performance.

“I must give kudos to Hon. Wasiu Adesina for the excellent work he has done over the past eight years. His leadership has brought meaningful development to Ikorodu. He has proven himself a man of vision, commitment, and action,” Ogunleye stated.

He urged the incoming leadership of the local government to sustain the momentum and build on the solid foundation laid by the outgoing chairman.

Representing Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, Dr. Saheed Ibikunle delivered a goodwill message in which he emphasized Adesina’s responsiveness to the people’s needs and his commitment to purpose-driven governance.

“Hon. Wasiu Adesina has governed with empathy and positively impacted the lives of the common man. His tenure stands as proof that good governance is achievable at the local level,” Dr. Ibikunle affirmed.

Also present was Alhaji Basorun Babatunde Tajudeen Rotinwa, former Chairman of the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, who attributed Adesina’s success to strategic planning and effective team synergy.

“His achievements are the result of proper planning, team harmony, and genuine concern for the people. His ability to work seamlessly with his legislative and administrative arms ensured steady progress in Ikorodu,” Rotinwa observed.

Adding a voice from the grassroots, Deaconess Busola Isikalu, Iyaloja General of Ikorodu, paid a touching tribute to the Chairman’s inclusiveness.

“He never left us behind. From improved market infrastructure to consistent engagement, Chairman Adesina has shown that he values our contribution to the local economy,” she stated.

Taking the stage with emotion and sincerity, Hon. Wasiu Adesina used the platform to reflect on his journey and express profound gratitude to those who walked it with him.

“The pages of this book are not merely filled with ink—they are infused with the hopes, sacrifices, and aspirations of a people who entrusted their future into the hands of one of their own. This work documents not just my story but our collective story as a community committed to growth, dignity, and legacy.”

He recalled the moment he assumed office in 2017:

“I made a silent covenant with God and the people of Ikorodu: to serve with sincerity, lead with empathy, and govern with integrity. Eight years later, I stand here humbled, not by the accolades, but by the journey itself.”

Hon. Adesina highlighted accomplishments across sectors—education, health, youth development, rural integration, and infrastructure.

“We lit up our communities, not just with electricity, but with hope. We built roads, but we also built trust. We provided interventions, but more importantly, we restored dignity to governance at the grassroots.”

He described the book not as a personal memoir, but:

“A repository of service, an archive of sacrifice, and a mirror of accountability. It tells the story of how an ordinary son of Ikorodu was given an extraordinary privilege to lead—and how, by God’s grace and your support, that mandate was honourably fulfilled.”

In his words of appreciation, the Chairman acknowledged all who supported his administration:

“To my mentors, allies, and brothers in leadership who gave wings to my aspirations—thank you. To the gallant team at the local government—the heads of departments, legislative arm, and every dedicated staff—you are the silent architects of our success.”

He extended heartfelt thanks to the people of Ikorodu:

“Our market women, youth, artisans, traditional institutions, the elderly, and every stakeholder—you are the heartbeat of this administration. Thank you for your prayers, your support, your constructive criticism, and your love.”

Hon. Adesina became visibly emotional when appreciating his family:

“To my beloved wife—you are my strength in silence, my wisdom in confusion, and my peace in pressure. Your patience, love, and unshakable loyalty have kept me grounded. To my children—thank you for brightening my world even in my absence. To my siblings, in-laws, and extended family, your prayers and presence have been a fortress.”

He concluded by sharing the enduring value of the book:

“As I round off my time in office, this book serves as both a legacy and a lesson—a legacy for the next generation of leaders, and a lesson in humility, service, and accountability. May the journey ahead for Ikorodu be brighter, deeper, and even more prosperous.”

The formal launch of “Providence: A Journey of Honour” was accompanied by goodwill messages from political figures and community stakeholders. Dignitaries in attendance received awards in recognition of their support for local governance.

Copies of the book will be distributed to libraries, schools, and institutions across Ikorodu for reference and research, reinforcing its value as a civic educational tool.

Hon. Wasiu Adesina’s administration is widely regarded as one of transformative leadership.

Under his stewardship, Ikorodu witnessed significant improvements in primary healthcare delivery, educational infrastructure, road rehabilitation, youth and women empowerment, and inclusive engagement with traditional and market institutions.

The legacy book stands not only as a record of stewardship but also as a timeless source of inspiration for future leaders in local governance.
