It was a busy Thursday in the last quarter of 2024 when I received an unexpected call that, in hindsight, became a pivotal moment for my media brand, Ikorodu News Network (INN).
The caller? None other than the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina.
Now, it’s not unusual for council-related communications to come through his information officer—but this time, the council boss personally reached out.
That alone was striking. We exchanged the usual pleasantries, and then he inquired about a report INN had published on a programme covered for the local government.
Naturally, I informed him the report had already been released, as we make it a rule to publish covered stories by 7:00 am the next morning. He hadn’t seen it yet, so I promptly sent the direct link to him.
What followed was a moment of clarity—wrapped in constructive criticism.
After reading the article, Hon. Adesina gave his usual commendation, but added a piece of advice that still resonates with me: “Sir Mikky, I think you need to make your font size big enough for easy reading, please look into it and equally work on it.”
It was said politely but with firm sincerity.
I thanked him and assured him I’d make the changes. Before we ended the call, he also hinted at an upcoming council project, asking me to draft a pre-report in advance. The conversation ended, but it stirred something deeper in me.
Later that day, I revisited the story and truthfully assessed my website’s entire visual layout. It was glaring—the font size, the styling, the template—they all needed an upgrade to better serve our readers.
That single piece of feedback triggered a full redesign of the INN website. The new, more readable theme we use today was born out of that pivotal conversation.
It wasn’t just a correction—it was a professional upgrade. And it came from a council chairman who had no obligation to do so.
The fact that Hon. Wasiu Adesina paid such close attention to our work—and cared enough to call directly—elevated my respect for him. It wasn’t just about media visibility; it was about partnership, progress, and personal development.
As his tenure gradually draws to a close, Ikorodu News Network (INN) extends heartfelt gratitude to the council chairman—not just for his administration’s projects and programmes, but for his support and consistent patronage of our platforms, both INN-NIGERIA and INN-AFRICA MAGAZINE.
He fondly refers to me as “Sir Mikky, a friend of the council,” and that statement has always made our connection feel more personal and more meaningful.
His leadership style—intentional, observant, and accessible—will be greatly missed.
To those who graced the launch of his recently published book, we hope you enjoyed our specially curated magazine content celebrating the legacy and accomplishments of Hon. Wasiu Adesina.
Here’s to a man whose thoughtful correction became a catalyst for growth.
Cheers, Mr Chairman.
