The Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina, in the company of his wife and Chairperson of the Local Government, Mrs. Abolanle Adesina, hosted a grand thanksgiving service themed “Praise of Success” on Thursday, 24th July, 2025 at the Council Secretariat Hall, Ikorodu, in a radiant atmosphere filled with heartfelt worship, reflection, and appreciation.
The event marked not just a celebration of divine grace but also served as the final official gathering between Hon. Adesina and the local government staff, signifying the conclusion of his tenure in office.
It drew a crowd of dignitaries, traditional leaders, political stakeholders, civil servants, religious leaders, and members of the general public, all present to honour the Chairman’s successful administration.
The thanksgiving was a spiritual and joyful ceremony that featured powerful prayer sessions, uplifting hymns, scriptural exhortations, and dynamic praise and worship, led by gospel ministers and the local choir.
Guests lifted their voices in praise, acknowledging God’s faithfulness over the past years of leadership and public service in Ikorodu.
The theme, “Praise of Success”, aptly captured the mood of the day—a moment of triumphant gratitude for a tenure marked by infrastructure development, youth empowerment, security enhancement, environmental sustainability, and people-centered governance.
Delivering a heartfelt exhortation, Mrs. Abolanle Adesina reminded all attendees of the need for consistent faith and surrender to divine direction, especially as one season ends and another begins.
“As we praise God today, we hand over tomorrow to Him to take absolute control,”
she declared, drawing applause and reverence from the audience.
She acknowledged the role of God in preserving her husband’s strength and wisdom through the demanding responsibilities of leadership and commended the council staff and the Ikorodu community for standing firm with the administration.
In an emotional farewell speech, Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina took centre stage to give thanks to God for granting him the grace to serve the people of Ikorodu diligently and faithfully.
He reflected on the journey of his administration, recounting moments of both triumph and challenges, while expressing deep gratitude to all who made the journey worthwhile.
“This is not just a thanksgiving; it is a celebration of shared achievements, a reflection on the path we’ve walked together, and a moment to say thank you,”
he began.
The Chairman paid glowing tribute to his wife, Mrs. Abolanle Adesina, praising her for her tireless support, loyalty, and passion for community development, particularly in her role as Chairperson of the Local Government. He described her as “the silent strength behind the scenes.”
He also appreciated the council management team, Secretary to the Local Government, Councillors, heads of departments, and every staff member for their commitment and professionalism over the years, stating that the success of his administration would not have been possible without their daily contributions.
Above all, Hon. Adesina extended sincere appreciation to the good people of Ikorodu for their trust, constructive feedback, cooperation, and unflinching support throughout his time in office.
“I leave this office fulfilled and grateful. I may no longer be your chairman after this term, but I will always remain a proud son of Ikorodu, committed to its growth and prosperity.”
As the ceremony drew to a close, senior religious leaders led intercessory prayers for Ikorodu Local Government, the outgoing administration, the staff, and the incoming leadership. Prayers were also offered for the continued peace, unity, and prosperity of the Ikorodu Division.
