The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, has called on the outgoing Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina, not to retire into political obscurity following the completion of his 8-year tenure in office.
Senator Abiru made this statement on Thursday, 25th July 2025, during the official commissioning of the newly constructed Ikorodu Local Government Legislative Chamber — a legacy project completed by Hon. Adesina’s administration and commissioned by the Senator himself.
Commending Adesina’s impactful leadership over the years, Senator Abiru described the former council chairman as a tested and trusted party stalwart whose wealth of experience remains a valuable asset to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Hon. Adesina’s accomplishments in office are a reflection of his competence, dedication, and leadership capacity,” Senator Abiru stated.
“The APC, as a progressive party, still needs individuals like him to continue playing active roles, offering advice, and taking up assignments that will further strengthen our efforts in delivering the dividends of democracy.”

Senator Abiru emphasized that stepping down from public office should not equate to withdrawal from service, urging Adesina to remain within the party structure and keep himself politically visible and involved.
“The party may still require your support in the near future — for strategic assignments and responsibilities,” he added.
“So I urge you not to go dark. Your contributions are far from over.”
The commissioning event witnessed the attendance of notable dignitaries, including the former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, and the former Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Sanai Oyeniran Bolanle (SOB) Agunbiade, among others.
The newly built legislative chamber stands as a lasting testament to Adesina’s infrastructural achievements and commitment to strengthening democratic institutions at the grassroots level.

It is expected to enhance the functionality of the local government legislature and foster better governance within the council.
The event was marked with celebration, tributes, and a strong call for sustained service from party leaders, reflecting the importance of continuity, mentorship, and institutional memory in politics.
With this public endorsement from Senator Abiru, Hon. Wasiu Adesina’s political journey may have just entered a new phase — one marked not by retirement, but by renewed relevance within the party’s ongoing mission.
