The Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, on Friday, 25th July 2025, commissioned the newly constructed Prince Abiodun Ogunleye Legislative Chamber in Ikorodu Local Government, Lagos State, in a historic event that marked the end of an era for Hon. Wasiu Adesina, the outgoing Executive Chairman.
The edifice, named in honour of the former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and respected Ikorodu Apex Leader, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, stands as one of the most iconic legislative chambers across local governments in Lagos State, housing 19 fully equipped offices to enhance legislative functions.
The commissioning, which coincided with the conclusion of Hon. Adesina’s second and final term in office, drew commendations from political leaders and dignitaries across Ikorodu Division, who celebrated his transformative leadership and infrastructural legacy.
Speaking at the event, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru commended the outgoing chairman for his foresight and commitment to public service. “From all indications, you have done well,” the senator noted.
“What makes this unique is that Adesina has chosen to complete and deliver such a monumental project at the tail end of his tenure.”

“That shows selflessness and a genuine passion for community growth. This chamber, patterned after what we have in Abuja, offers the new administration a solid platform to build on.”
In his remarks, Hon. Sanai Oyeniran Bolanle (SOB) Agunbiade, former Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, hailed Adesina as “Mr. Converter,” not only for constructing the legislative chamber but also for overhauling the entire council secretariat.
“He is leaving the council better than he met it. This Legislative Chamber is a symbol of excellence and a reflection of effective leadership,” he said.
Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, in whose honour the chamber is named, expressed pride in the legacy left by Adesina.
“He has proved that the party made the right decision by entrusting him with leadership. Over eight years, Adesina has served Ikorodu diligently, and today, we are all proud of him,” Ogunleye remarked.
Aarebirin Hon. Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, National Deputy Chairman of the Association of Local Government Vice Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGOVC), also showered accolades on the outgoing chairman.

“It is promise made and promise kept. God doesn’t make mistakes—Adesina’s leadership has stood the test of time and planted Ikorodu on the map of excellence.”
Hon. Adebowale Adebola, Leader of the Ikorodu Legislative Council, described the day as one of immense joy.
“When we initially approached the chairman on this project, he welcomed the idea and consented to it. Today, we are witnessing the fruit of that decision. This will help our councillors perform their duties effectively.”
In his valedictory speech, Hon. Wasiu Adesina expressed gratitude to all stakeholders and leaders who supported his journey in office.
“We have laid a solid foundation both internally and externally. Just yesterday, we commissioned new furniture for the customary court.”
“This legislative chamber was started a year ago with Rep. Babajimi Benson laying the foundation, and today, Senator Abiru has commissioned it,” he explained.
He emphasized that the chamber, with its 19 offices, is one of the largest at the local level in the state.
“We decided to name it after Baba Ogunleye because of his immense support for our administration. As I bow out of office today, I thank all our leaders, including Hon. SOB Agunbiade, for their unwavering support since I began this journey.”

The event also witnessed the presence of key community figures, including the Grand Chief Imam of Ikorodu Division, Fadilat Shiekh Alliy Seifudeen Ayinla Ademoritan Olowooribi; and the Iya-Oloja General of Ikorodu Division, Deaconess Busola Isikalu, among others.
As the curtains closed on his administration, Hon. Wasiu Adesina left the stage on a high note, having etched his name into the development story of Ikorodu through a legacy of visible impact, infrastructural advancement, and legislative empowerment.
