In a historic and spiritually symbolic gesture, Hon. Wasiu Ayodeji Adesina, the outgoing Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, commissioned the very first Christian chapel within the council secretariat premises on Friday, July 25, 2025 — his final day in office.
The chapel’s commissioning marked a new chapter for Christian staff members of the local government who, for the first time in the council’s history, now have a dedicated place of worship and spiritual reflection within the secretariat.
The development was a direct fulfilment of the chairman’s promise following the groundbreaking foundation laying ceremony held on February 1, 2024.
“This is not just a building, it is a legacy — a sanctuary that will serve as a spiritual home for our Christian workforce for generations to come,” Hon. Adesina said in his final remarks before formally signing out of office.
The chapel is part of a flurry of legacy projects commissioned by Hon. Adesina in the final hours of his administration.
Other key projects unveiled include the state-of-the-art Ikorodu Local Government Legislative Chamber and several completed road construction projects across various communities within the Ikorodu Central area.
Reacting to the development, Pastor Adebayo Idowu, Head of the Christian Staff Fellowship in the local government, expressed heartfelt appreciation and admiration for the council boss.
“We are deeply grateful to Hon. Wasiu Adesina for this divine initiative. This chapel stands as a testament to his inclusive leadership and unwavering respect for religious diversity. For the Christian community within the council, this is nothing short of monumental,” Pastor Idowu stated.
The chapel not only symbolizes religious inclusivity but also underscores the commitment of the outgoing administration to the spiritual and moral welfare of its staff, complementing other physical infrastructure developments across the local government.
As Hon. Adesina bows out after 8years of service, his final act leaves behind a place of prayer, peace, and unity — reinforcing his imprint on the council as one who not only built roads and chambers but also raised altars.
