Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba officially inaugurated and proclaimed the commencement of the 6th Legislative Assembly during a well-attended ceremony held inside the Council’s Legislative Chamber.

The occasion, graced by political stakeholders, traditional rulers, party chieftains, community leaders, and residents, signified the formal constitution of the council’s legislative arm, a vital component in deepening democracy and driving grassroots development in Ijede.

In her inaugural address, Hon. Gbadebo-Alogba underscored the importance of collaboration between the legislative and executive arms of the council, noting that effective synergy is critical for delivering sustainable projects, enacting people-centered policies, and ensuring inclusive governance.

“Today marks another milestone in our commitment to strengthen democratic structures at the grassroots.”

“I congratulate all elected councillors and urge you to work with diligence, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the service of our people.”

“Together, we must uphold the rule of law, protect the public interest, and pursue the development agenda of Ijede LCDA without compromise,” she said.

As part of the day’s proceedings, councillors elected their principal officers, resulting in the emergence of: Hon. Basirat Kehinde (Ward A) – Leader of the House; Hon. Mustapha Agbabiaka (Ward B) – Majority Leader; Hon. Saka Nurudeen (Ward C) – Deputy Leader; and Hon. Temilade Akinyemi (Ward D) – Chief Whip

The ceremony also featured the formal swearing-in of all councillors, who pledged to work in harmony to advance the collective aspirations of the people.

Speaking on behalf of the legislative arm, Hon. Basirat Kehinde, the newly elected Leader of the House, expressed appreciation to the council leadership and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the platform to serve.

“We are deeply honoured by the trust reposed in us. As a team, we will ensure the passage of progressive by-laws and policies that will uplift the socio-economic well-being of our constituents.”

“We are committed to an open-door policy and to working in tandem with the executive for the betterment of Ijede,” she affirmed.

The inauguration of the 6th Legislative Assembly comes at a time when Ijede LCDA is intensifying its focus on infrastructure renewal, youth empowerment, social welfare, and environmental sustainability—areas where legislative backing will be key to sustaining and scaling up ongoing initiatives.
