IKEJA ELECTRIC COMMISSIONS KWARU 15MVA INJECTION SUBSTATION TO BOOST POWER SUPPLY IN IKOTUN AXIS ~ INN Nigeria ☆

Lagos, Nigeria – August 1, 2025: Ikeja Electric Plc, Nigeria’s leading electricity distribution company, has commissioned the state-of-the-art Kwaru 15MVA Injection Substation in the Abaranje, Ikotun area of Lagos State, marking a major milestone in efforts to improve power supply quality and reliability in the region.

The inauguration ceremony, held at the project site, attracted top government officials, power sector regulators, community leaders, and key industry stakeholders, reflecting a united commitment to bolstering Nigeria’s electricity infrastructure.

The facility is designed to provide a more stable and efficient electricity supply to approximately 50,000 residents and businesses in the rapidly growing Ikotun corridor.

With an additional 15MVA capacity, the substation will improve load management, reduce transmission losses, and strengthen distribution network resilience, thereby stimulating economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Delivering his address, the Honourable Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, applauded Ikeja Electric’s investment in critical infrastructure.

“This commissioning is a testament to the unwavering dedication of the current administration to transforming Nigeria’s power sector.”

“Our goal is to ensure stable and affordable electricity for every Nigerian, and projects like this injection substation are critical steps towards achieving that vision,” he said.

Mr. Kola Adesina, Chairman of Ikeja Electric and Sahara Group, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to Nigeria’s energy future:

“Energy is the bedrock of economic prosperity. This investment underscores our strategic vision to power lives and businesses with innovation and excellence. It also reflects how private sector collaboration can drive sustainable energy solutions and foster national economic growth.”

Ikeja Electric’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Folake Soetan, described the project as a milestone in customer service delivery:

Representing the Lagos State Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Engr. K. A. T. Balogun, GM/CEO of the Lagos State Electricity Board, highlighted the state government’s commitment to energy development and rural electrification:

“We aim to provide universal and reliable access to electricity for all Lagosians. This project perfectly aligns with that vision, and we encourage Ikeja Electric to uphold the highest standards in operations and customer engagement.”

From the construction perspective, Mr. Bola Azeez, CEO of Bolamark, the lead contractor, noted that the substation was built predominantly with Nigerian expertise and materials, showcasing the country’s capacity for delivering world-class infrastructure.

Speaking on behalf of the local community, Oba Azeez Gbadabiu Asiwaju, the Onikotun of Ikotun, expressed deep appreciation:

“We have long endured irregular power supply, and this project is a welcome relief. It will boost local businesses, enhance security, and improve our daily lives. Our community will protect this asset against vandalism and tampering.”

The Kwaru Injection Substation is part of Ikeja Electric’s broader network modernization initiative, with built-in provisions for future upgrades, smart grid technology integration, and capacity expansion.

The project sets a precedent for similar developments across Lagos State, offering a template for accelerated power sector investments through stakeholder collaboration and technical innovation.

Ikeja Electric’s Spokesperson, Mr. Kingsley Okotie, urged customers to promptly report service issues and avoid tampering with electrical installations, stressing that community cooperation is vital for sustaining improved electricity supply.

With this commissioning, Ikeja Electric has reinforced its position as a leader in Nigeria’s electricity distribution sector, further driving the vision of reliable and efficient energy delivery for all.
