A DECADE OF ROYAL SERVICE – THE INSPIRING JOURNEY OF OBA KABIRU ADEWALE SHOTOBI, AYANGBUREN OF IKORODU ~ INN Nigeria ☆

Ikorodu is in a festive spirit as it celebrates a decade of distinguished leadership under His Royal Majesty, Oba Engr. Dr. Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, GCIO, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, who marks his 10th Coronation Anniversary this year.

From 2015 to 2025, his reign has blended tradition, vision, and community development, transforming Ikorodu into a proud and thriving city within Lagos State.

Born on February 5, 1956, into the two royal ruling houses of Ikorodu, Oba Shotobi’s story is one of perseverance, opportunity, and service. His early education began in 1960 at Methodist Primary School, Ikorodu, and concluded in 1966.

After overcoming financial delays, he entered Zumratul Islamiyyah Grammar School, Surulere, graduating in 1975 with an excellent performance in the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

While attending the Federal School of Arts and Science, Victoria Island, he worked as a clerical officer at the Federal Palace Hotel in Lagos.

Fate intervened when he met Dr. Bob Brown Jnr., Special Adviser to U.S. President Richard Nixon, during a diplomatic mission to President Shehu Shagari.

Recognizing Kabiru’s diligence and honesty, Dr. Brown sponsored his education in the United States, where he earned a B.Sc (Hons.) in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 1983.

Returning to Nigeria in 1984, he served his NYSC with the West African Portland Cement Company, Sagamu, and was retained as a full-time engineer, rising to the position of Deputy Chief Electrical Engineer before voluntarily retiring in 2004.

His entrepreneurial journey began before his retirement with the establishment of Kadesh Ventures Nigeria Limited, a petroleum marketing company headquartered in Ikorodu.

The company grew rapidly, creating jobs and contributing to the local economy, while earning a reputation as a trusted brand in Lagos State.

On July 2015, Kabiru Adewale Shotobi ascended the throne as the Ayanga Otun (Ayangburen) of Ikorodu.

Over the past ten years, his reign has been defined by peace-building, cultural preservation, socio-economic empowerment, and a commitment to modernizing Ikorodu while upholding its proud traditions.

Married to Olori Bridget Kudirat Abosede Shotobi, the royal union is blessed with five children—Princess Adedayo, the late Prince Ademola, Prince Adeniyi, Princess Adetayo, and Prince Obadimeji—who remain active in the cultural and community life of Ikorodu.

From 2015 to 2025, Oba Shotobi has not only maintained the dignity of the throne but has also used his influence to attract development partnerships, foster youth empowerment, and serve as a unifying figure in times of challenge.

As the anniversary celebrations fill the streets of Ikorodu with music, dance, and tradition, the people look back with pride at the first ten years of his reign—and forward with hope to the years ahead.

In the words of his people:
“Kabiyesi’s reign is a blessing to Ikorodu. May his crown never fall.”
