
Abuja, Nigeria — Prince Amid Adekunle Oduborisa FMNES, a founding member of the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), has formally received his appointment letter as a member of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Environment and Technology, Koroma/Saakpenwa, Ogoni, Rivers State.
The appointment letter was presented to him on Monday, 11th August 2025 in Abuja by Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Honourable Minister of Education. Dr. Alausa, who was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, previously served as Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, where he spearheaded reforms aimed at transforming Nigeria’s healthcare system to meet global standards.
Prince Oduborisa’s appointment follows President Tinubu’s recent announcement of the Pro-Chancellor, Governing Council members, and principal officers for the newly established Federal University of Environment and Technology.
The university, located in Ogoni, Rivers State, is designed to address critical environmental and technological challenges while fostering research, innovation, and sustainable development.
In his capacity as a Governing Council member, Prince Oduborisa is expected to bring his extensive experience in environmental advocacy, policy formulation, and institutional leadership to bear on the development of the institution.
His longstanding contributions to environmental protection and sustainable practices, especially through the Nigerian Environmental Society, position him as a key asset to the university’s mission.
President Tinubu named Prof. Don Mon Baridam, a management expert and former lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council.
Prof. Chinedu Mmom, also from the University of Port Harcourt and a professor of geography as well as former Rivers State Commissioner for Education, will serve as Vice-Chancellor.
Other members of the governing council include Mr. Emmanuel Onoja (North Central), Prince Amid Adekunle (South-West), Prof. Chima Oji (South-East), and Alhaji Abdullahi Magaji Lamda (North-West).
The NES has already lauded his appointment, describing it as a well-deserved recognition of his dedication, expertise, and commitment to national development. Stakeholders in the environmental and academic sectors have also expressed optimism that his involvement will help shape strategic decisions and elevate the institution’s standing in Nigeria and beyond.
