Relief may finally be in sight for long-suffering residents of Ikorodu as Rep. Babajimi Adegoke Benson, representing Ikorodu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has flagged off the reconstruction of the 1.7-kilometre Kokoro Abu Road — a vital link route that connects to Grammar School on Obafemi Awolowo Way.
Rep. Benson, who inspected the site on Friday the August 15th, alongside local government leaders, announced that construction will commence within a month and is scheduled for completion in five months.
He was joined by Prince Abdul-Lateef Adedayo Ladega, Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, and Hon. Ameen Olawale Apanishile, Chairman of Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area (LCDA).
Kokoro-Abu Road also serves as a strategic link from its axis, connecting the bustling Sabo Market Road and Ladega Market to the heart of Ikorodu.
Speaking during the inspection, Benson stressed that the project was part of his constituency interventions, adding that it was initiated after concerns were raised by Prince Ladega shortly after his election.
“We made promises to our people, and we are committed to keeping them. The Kokoro Abu Road will be reconstructed to ease movement, reduce flooding, and improve the living standards of this community.”
“I assure you that work will be done to the highest standard,” Benson said.
He further disclosed that more infrastructure and empowerment projects were lined up across Ikorodu Division as part of his ongoing developmental agenda.
Prince Ladega described the road as a persistent nightmare for residents, especially during rainy seasons when flooding rendered it nearly impassable.
“When we came here during campaigns, the residents complained bitterly about this road. I assured them it would be fixed.”
“Immediately after the elections, I reached out to Rep. Benson, and true to his words, he has delivered yet again. He is indeed a promise keeper,” Ladega stated.
Community leaders also applauded the intervention. Sheikh Yahya Oshoala (As-Samadani) recalled how Benson had previously facilitated the reconstruction of a collapsed bridge in the area even before assuming office.

He urged residents to support contractors during the construction period.
Hon. Olawale Apanishile, Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, described the project as another addition to Benson’s track record of infrastructural delivery, citing the recently completed Adamo–Olorunda Road and upcoming projects such as Agbede Road and Ogunleye Drive.
Similarly, Hon. Shotomiwa Wasiu, Councillor for Ward D and Leader of the House, Ikorodu Local Government, praised Benson as “Mr. Talk-and-Do,” noting that his consistency in delivering projects had earned him the trust of the people.
For residents, the reconstruction represents a long-awaited intervention. A community member narrated the daily struggles caused by the deplorable state of the road.
“Whenever it rains, our children can’t go to school because the road is impassable. Commercial drivers avoid this route, and we suffer.”
“But with this project, Rep. Benson has come to our rescue. We are deeply grateful, and may Almighty God continue to bless him,” the resident said.
Stakeholders say the reconstruction of Kokoro Abu Road will ease traffic congestion, improve access to schools and healthcare facilities, and stimulate economic activities by facilitating the movement of goods and services across the axis.
The project, they emphasized, reinforces Benson’s reputation as a responsive lawmaker committed to complementing state and local government efforts in driving infrastructure growth.
