Grassroots leaders in Lagos have commended the Lagos State Government for the installation and commissioning of water scheme projects across rural and semi-urban communities, describing the initiative as a life-changing intervention.

The projects, facilitated through the Office of Rural Development, were officially opened for public use on Friday, September 5, 2025.

They are designed to provide clean, safe, and affordable water to communities that have long struggled with inadequate access.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, explained that the water scheme is part of the state government’s broader commitment to improving the quality of life at the grassroots.

“The Lagos State Government, through the Office of Rural Development, embarked on this project to alleviate the stress residents face in accessing clean and healthy water across the state’s rural areas.

We are committed to ensuring that no community is left behind in the drive for equitable development,” Dr. Agbaje stated.

In Mosan Okunola LCDA, community leaders of Opeki expressed their gratitude and praised Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his dedication to grassroots development.

High Chief Buhari Abatan Adeleye, the Baale of Opeki, noted that the water scheme would bring relief to families who had endured years of water scarcity.

Chief Taiwo Adeleye, the Balogun of Opeki, emphasized that the project would reduce the burden on women and children, while Mr. Fatai Adeleye, the Bashorun of Opeki, commended the governor for tackling a long-standing community need.

Similarly, in Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA, the Ogunjobi Fagbemi CDA, represented by Mr. Razak Adebayo Oseni hailed Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration for prioritizing the welfare of grassroots communities.

He described the scheme as “transformative,” stressing that residents could now redirect funds spent on purchasing water to other family needs.

The sense of relief was also evident in Bada Community, Ayobo-Ipaja, where leaders of the Bada Community Development Association (CDA) praised the governor’s leadership.

Mr. Lateef Monsuru, the PRO, said the project symbolized dignity and development, while Social Secretary Mr. Ayoade Kabiru and Chairman Mr. Adesina Sodipo pledged to ensure the facility is well managed.

Elder statesman Alhaji Ganiu Hassan and other leaders, including Omoboriowo Kamal (Welfare Officer), Olayiwola Mofew (Member), and Mr. Sulaimon Yusuf (Ex-officio) applauded Governor Sanwo-Olu for delivering a project that directly touches lives.

Residents across the benefiting communities echoed similar sentiments, stressing that the scheme would drastically reduce cases of waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid while also providing financial relief to households.

The water project is one of several initiatives under Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration aimed at promoting rural development, equitable service delivery, and sustainable community growth.
