
Ikorodu, Lagos – Hon. Ogunleye Gbolahan Adetokunbo, lawmaker representing Ikorodu Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly and Chairman of the House Committee on Social Development Goals, has assured residents of his unwavering dedication to effective representation and grassroots development.
He gave this assurance on Wednesday, September 4, during a 10th Ikorodu Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting held at the Ikorodu Ultra-Modern Town Hall, where community leaders, royal fathers, government officials, party stalwarts, youth representatives, and residents gathered to review progress and share concerns.
The constituency stakeholders’ meeting was simultaneously held across the 40 constituencies in Lagos State.
Dignitaries in attendance included Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu Kingdom; Oba Aremu Shotonwa, the Sekumade of Ipakodo; Oba Ahmed Mouruf Ogunnaike, the Alagura of Agura; Hon. S.O.B. Agunbiade, former Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly; Alhaji Waheed Animashaun, APC Party Chairman in Ikorodu LGA; and Deaconess Busola Isikalu, the Iya-Oloja General of Ikorodu Division; Hon. Adedayo Ladega, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government; Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA; Hon. Ameen Olawale Apanishile, Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA.
Ogunleye commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, describing it as a government that has demonstrated innovation in both urban and rural development.
He highlighted the governor’s track record in infrastructure renewal, environmental stability, housing delivery, healthcare, and education, stressing that Lagos continues to set the pace for good governance in Nigeria.
“The administration of Mr. Governor has been anchored on collaborative governance, efficient service delivery, and people-oriented projects that bring real impact to communities,” Ogunleye said.
He noted that the Lagos Assembly has passed more than 467 resolutions and enacted landmark laws to support the Renewed Hope Agenda, including the Lagos State Environmental Regulation Law, the Lagos State Homeownership Law, and the establishment of the Lagos State University of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Turning to his personal achievements as a legislator, Ogunleye outlined several projects facilitated within Ikorodu Constituency I.
These include road construction and rehabilitation across selected communities.
Installation of transformers to improve electricity supply; A ₦5 million interest-free loan scheme for market women, secured in partnership with First Bank of Nigeria; and Engagement with state agencies to address pressing community needs.
He emphasized that his representation has been rooted in accountability, accessibility, and responsiveness.
“Every request tabled by my constituents is important, and I will continue to follow them up until they receive the necessary attention,” he promised.
The lawmaker thanked stakeholders, including the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, political leaders, market men and women, artisans, youth groups, and party faithful, for their continued support.
He pledged to raise the bar of legislative excellence and ensure that Lagos remains a model of democratic governance in Nigeria.
“True governance is not a theory,” he declared. “It is a shared responsibility—a daily commitment to the people we serve.”

Speaking at the event, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Adewale Shotobi, urged Ogunleye to maintain constant engagement with the grassroots.
He cautioned that constituency meetings should not be reactive but proactive, adding that elected officials must not wait for directives from the Assembly leadership before meeting with their people.
The monarch also announced that the Lagos State Commissioner for Planning and Budget would visit Ikorodu the following week for a budget stakeholders’ forum.
He encouraged residents to seize the opportunity to present their needs so they could be factored into the state’s 2025 budget.
Oba Shotobi further advised residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in readiness for the 2027 general elections while expressing optimism that Lagos State could produce a governor from Ikorodu Division in the near future.
He praised President Bola Tinubu’s administration for its development strides and appealed to the state government to site the proposed Lagos State University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Ikorodu.
Also speaking, Dr. Nurudeen Yekini Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, announced that two new transformers would soon be installed in Isiwu and Erikorodo communities, with other areas of Ikorodu scheduled to benefit. He commended Ogunleye for his energy and effectiveness in facilitating development projects.
Ikorodu Local Government Chairman, Prince Abdul-Lateef Adedayo Ladega, applauded the Lagos Assembly for sustaining grassroots engagement through the stakeholders’ meeting initiative.
He described Ogunleye as a worthy ambassador of Ikorodu who has consistently represented the people’s interests.
The Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, Hon. Ameen Olawale Apanishile also praised Ogunleye’s contributions at both the legislative and constituency levels, stressing that his impact is felt across Ikorodu Division.
The session allowed community representatives to present their concerns directly to their lawmaker and other government officials:
Ajibade (NURTW representative): appealed for a designated motor park along Ojubode Road to improve safety and organization in transportation.
Tanimowo Abdulazeez (Isiwu community): demanded the construction of a new school and fencing for Isiwu Grammar School and LGEA Primary School to protect students.
Yunus Opeyemi: raised alarm over recurring flooding during rainy seasons, calling for urgent government intervention, while also advocating that local artisans and contractors be prioritized in government projects.
Adeyemi Samuel (youth representative): pushed for youth inclusion in governance, decision-making roles, and empowerment programs while urging the creation of more local employment opportunities.
The 2025 Constituency Stakeholders’ Meeting once again underscored the Lagos Assembly’s commitment to participatory democracy, giving citizens a platform to engage directly with their representatives.
As the meeting closed, Ogunleye reassured participants of his resolve to ensure that their voices were not only heard but translated into tangible development outcomes.
“The journey of governance is about inclusivity,” he said. “Together, we can leave a legacy of progress, prosperity, and hope for Ikorodu and for Lagos State.”
