
Ikorodu Local Government, led by Executive Chairman Hon. Prince Adedayo Ladega, played host to the preliminary round of the 21st Lagos State Annual Spelling Bee Competition on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the council secretariat.
Welcoming pupils and guests, Hon. Ladega applauded the contestants’ courage, stressing that the contest goes beyond correct spelling to foster confidence, discipline, and lifelong learning skills.
“Your decision to stand on this stage already makes you winners,” he told the participants. “You represent the hopes of your schools, families, and our nation’s future.”
The event attracted top officials, including senior council administrators, members of the 7th Legislative Council, education board representatives, and other key stakeholders, underscoring the council’s collective push for academic excellence.
Hon. Ladega linked the competition to the council’s S.E.E.D. agenda—Security, Education, Enhanced Healthcare and Development—emphasizing that quality education remains a cornerstone of community growth.

Secondary School Winners
• 1st: Usman Hassanat Shamsiat – Yewa Senior School
• 2nd: Adelunle Favour Adenike – United Junior School
• 3rd: Toye Islamiyah Omomayowa – Yewa Senior School
