
The vibrant community of Ipakodo in Ikorodu Division, Lagos State, came alive in grand style on Saturday, October 4, 2025, as indigenes, residents, and guests from far and near converged on the Dangote Ferry Terminal Event Centre for the grand finale of the 4th Ipakodo Day Celebration — a spectacular event that blended culture, entertainment, and community development in one festive atmosphere.
The week-long celebration, which began with Woro Day, featured a lineup of engaging activities including health outreach programs, environmental sanitation exercises, youth empowerment workshops, and a football tournament aimed at fostering unity and promoting talent development among the youth.
The grand finale was the climax of these activities, showcasing colourful traditional performances, music, dances, awards, and community recognitions that reflected the rich heritage of Ipakodo and the town’s renewed drive for progress.
The event drew an impressive array of dignitaries and stakeholders from across Ikorodu Division and beyond.
Chairman of the Day for the Ipakodo Day 2025 Celebration, Dr. Kazeem Ogbara, the Adeboruwa of Igbogbo, Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali; the Olubeshe of Ibeshe; the Alagura of Agura, Oba Abdul Mouruf Ogunaike; Rep. Babajimi Benson (MHR); Senator Mikhail Adetokunbo Abiru (FCA); Hon. Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju, Chairman of Ikorodu West LCDA.
Also in attendance were Prince Segun Ogunlewe; Deaconess Busola Isikalu, Iyaloja-General of Ikorodu Division, along with several other distinguished guests, traditional chiefs, religious leaders, and youth representatives.
Prince Olasukanmi Aremu Ade Shotonwa, Chairman of the Ipakodo Development Association (IDA), expressed deep appreciation to all sponsors, partners, and community members for their contributions toward the success of the festival.
He described Ipakodo Day as more than a cultural celebration — a rallying point for unity, progress, and renewal of communal values.
According to him, the 2025 edition’s theme, “Fostering Collaboration Between Indigenes and Residents for Greater Community Development,” reflects the association’s strategic vision to build bridges among all stakeholders for collective growth.
“Ipakodo Day is not just a celebration; it is a reflection of our shared vision for progress. It brings together our people to reconnect with their roots while planning a better future. We are proud of our collective achievements and optimistic about what lies ahead,” Prince Olasukanmi said.
Delivering his royal message, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Basiru Aremu Shotonwa, the Sekumade of Ipakodo Kingdom, applauded the Ipakodo Development Association for its dedication to cultural preservation and developmental initiatives.
He noted that the celebration has grown to become one of the most unifying annual events in the Ikorodu Division, drawing attention to the potentials and peaceful coexistence of Ipakodo people.
“Our heritage is our pride, and our unity is our strength. Let us continue to work together in peace and harmony to make Ipakodo a model of cultural dignity and sustainable development,” the monarch stated.
Oba Shotonwa emphasized that unity among indigenes and residents remains the foundation for meaningful progress.
He assured the people of his continuous support for all community-driven programs that promote education, empowerment, and economic well-being.
The grand finale was a feast of cultural elegance. Traditional drummers, dancers, and masquerades thrilled the audience with electrifying performances, while the display of indigenous attire and crafts showcased Ipakodo’s rich cultural identity.
Awards and honours were presented to individuals and organizations who have made outstanding contributions to the development of the community, including youth mentors, philanthropists, and corporate partners.
Vendors lined the streets selling local delicacies, crafts, and souvenirs, creating a carnival-like atmosphere that reflected the unity and joy of the people.
The week-long celebration concluded with a renewed pledge from the Ipakodo Development Association to continue promoting community advancement through education, youth engagement, women empowerment, and infrastructural renewal.
Community elders and leaders also encouraged the younger generation to preserve Ipakodo’s traditions while embracing innovation and entrepreneurship to secure the town’s future relevance within the rapidly developing Ikorodu Division.
