The Lagos State Government has officially flagged off the construction of a 4.2-kilometer Onosa/Onosa Y Junction–Fokunmade/Onosa Road in Ibeju-Lekki Local Council Development Area (LCDA), reaffirming its commitment to grassroots development under Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES+ agenda.
Speaking at the event on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, disclosed that the new road construction would stretch from Onosa Road through Onosa Y Junction to Fokunmade and connect to Onosa Road 4 leading to the Expressway.
According to Dr. Agbaje, the project will be executed within a duration of 18 months, incorporating modern infrastructure standards that will enhance safety, drainage, and illumination.
“The Onosa Road project is designed to deliver lasting infrastructural value to the people of Ibeju-Lekki.”
“It will feature interlocked paving and solar-powered streetlights to complement the work, ensuring safety and durability for motorists and pedestrians alike,” Dr. Agbaje stated.
He added that the project forms part of the state government’s broader efforts to open up rural communities and strengthen connectivity across all parts of Lagos State.
The Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LCDA, Hon. Sesan Olowa, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the ongoing infrastructural transformation across Ibeju-Lekki, revealing that approximately 10 major road projects are currently under construction within the council area.
“The Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Sanwo-Olu has remained consistent in its drive to bring development closer to the people. Here in Ibeju-Lekki, more than ten major roads are currently under construction.”
“This new project will ease transportation, improve access, and attract more economic activity to our communities,” Hon. Olowa said.
The council boss described the flag-off as a reflection of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s commitment to equitable development, adding that the improved road network would significantly enhance the socio-economic landscape of the area.
Also speaking at the event, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LCDA, Mr. Eletu Halissan, commended the Lagos State Government for its developmental strides and lauded Hon. Olowa for his tireless efforts in supporting the government’s agenda at the local level.
“This project demonstrates what good governance looks like. We appreciate Governor Sanwo-Olu and our council chairman for ensuring that Ibeju-Lekki continues to benefit from the state’s infrastructure plan,” he said.
Representing the contractor, Babatunde Adeniran of PCP Construction Company, gave a technical overview of the project, explaining that it would feature a covered drainage system of 750 by 750 millimeters, a 7.3-meter-wide carriageway, and solar-powered streetlights to promote safety and sustainability.
He urged residents to work closely with their Community Development Associations (CDAs) to channel any requests, complaints or feedback to the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development as work progresses.
The Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki, Mr Habitat Adeboye, applauded the Lagos State Government for prioritizing rural infrastructure, noting that the project would improve accessibility and quality of life for residents.
“We are grateful for this project. It will make a real difference in our communities and support the fast-growing population in Ibeju-Lekki,” he said.
The flag-off of the Onosa/Onosa Y Junction–Fokunmade/Onosa Road adds to the list of ongoing infrastructure projects under the Sanwo-Olu administration, reflecting its vision of a Greater Lagos Rising — a Lagos where every community, from the urban centres to the rural edges, benefits from inclusive and sustainable development.
