Ewu-Agbo community in the Agura area of Ikorodu has received a major relief as the Lagos State Government, through the Office of Rural Development, delivered a brand-new transformer to restore electricity to the area after 18 months of persistent power outage.
The development comes under the Rural Electrification Initiative of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration, a state-wide effort aimed at tackling electricity challenges and improving power supply in rural and semi-urban communities across Lagos State.
Speaking during the delivery of the transformer on the 29th of October 2025, Mr. Femi Taiwo, Chairman of the Ewu-Agbo Community, expressed deep appreciation to the Governor for the timely intervention.
He noted that the community had endured nearly a year and a half without power, which affected both social and economic activities.
“We are truly grateful to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for remembering Ewu-Agbo. For the past 18 months, we have been in total darkness, and today marks a new beginning for us.”

“This new transformer will bring life back to our community,” Mr. Taiwo said.
He also commended Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, for his responsiveness and personal involvement in addressing the community’s plight.
“When we took our complaint to the Office of Rural Development, Dr. Agbaje listened to us attentively.”
“He came down personally to inspect our transformer and see the situation himself. His commitment gave us hope, and we are happy that today the promise has been fulfilled,” Taiwo added.
In his remarks, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, reiterated the state government’s dedication to inclusive infrastructural development, emphasizing that no rural community in Lagos would be left behind.
“The Sanwo-Olu administration is intentional about bringing development closer to the people, especially in communities that have been neglected in the past.”
“The Rural Electrification Initiative is not just about restoring power; it is about restoring hope, promoting economic growth, and improving the quality of life in our rural areas.”
Dr. Agbaje further urged community members to take ownership of the new infrastructure, protect it against vandalism, and ensure proper maintenance for its longevity.

“We appeal to residents to work together in safeguarding this facility. Development is a shared responsibility, and we can only achieve sustainable progress when the government and the people partner for the greater good,” he added.
The Rural Electrification Initiative continues to record notable successes across various local councils and development areas, further reaffirming Governor Sanwo-Olu’s commitment to inclusive governance and equitable infrastructure development.
