The Lagos State Government has extended its Rural Electrification Initiative to several communities across the state, with the installation of new transformers under the directive of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, in a renewed effort to improve power supply and uplift the living standards of residents in rural and semi-urban areas.
The initiative, executed through the Office of Rural Development, aims to provide stable electricity to underserved communities and stimulate economic growth at the grassroots.
One of the latest beneficiaries, Diamond Estate Community in Command, Ipaja, under Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA, has received a brand-new transformer that has been fully installed and energized.
Expressing the community’s appreciation, Mr. Olayiwola Lookman, Chairman of the Diamond Estate CDA, commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for his proactive governance and continuous attention to rural infrastructure.
He also lauded Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, for his quick intervention and hands-on supervision, which ensured the project’s completion following a detailed assessment of the area’s electricity needs.

In Igando-Ikotun LCDA, the Idojigbo and Badore West One Communities also benefited from the initiative. Both communities received new transformers with full installations to enhance electricity distribution and reliability.
Chairman of the Idojigbo Community Development Association, Mr. Akindele Jellili, described the project as a “lifeline” for residents who had endured prolonged power challenges.
He thanked the governor for his people-oriented approach and praised Dr. Agbaje for ensuring that their request translated into action after an on-site inspection.

Similarly, Mr. Martins Oduemo, head of the Badore West One CDA, hailed the Sanwo-Olu administration for prioritizing community welfare. He noted that the improved electricity supply would not only make life easier for residents but also support local businesses dependent on steady power.
Beyond Alimosho, the electrification initiative has also made a remarkable impact in the Ikorodu Division, where several communities recently took delivery of new transformers.
The beneficiaries include Heritage Estate CDA in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Golden Paradise Estate in Mowokekere, Ewu-Agbo Community in Agura, and Iradelu Itesiwaju Community in Imota LCDA.

Community leaders — Mr. Basiru Alami, Mr. Abolaji Oladeinde Frederick, Mr. Femi Taiwo, and Mr. Jimoh Sanmi — all expressed gratitude to the governor for extending the dividends of democracy to their doorsteps.
They also applauded the Office of Rural Development for responding swiftly to their letters of request and verifying their needs through physical inspection before project execution.
The Rural Electrification Initiative, one of the flagship components of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, continues to deliver tangible improvements across Lagos State.
The program focuses on bridging infrastructure gaps in rural and peri-urban communities by ensuring access to reliable electricity — a crucial driver of social and economic development.

According to Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, the Special Adviser on Rural Development, the initiative reflects Governor Sanwo-Olu’s inclusive vision to ensure that every community, regardless of location, feels the impact of good governance.
He reaffirmed that the government would continue to identify and address power infrastructure challenges across all Local Governments and LCDAs in Lagos.
Through sustained investment in rural electrification, the Lagos State Government is lighting up more communities, empowering residents, and reinforcing its commitment to an equitable and prosperous Lagos for all.
