OSHODI ARTS GALLERY HONOURS MISS OLUWAFEYIKEMI (FEYI) ADEKUNLE WITH EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR INNOVATIVE MIXED MEDIA AND MATERIAL EXPLORATION ~ INN Nigeria ☆

Oshodi Arts Gallery, one of the leading art establishments in Nigeria and West Africa, renowned for promoting creativity, culture, and artistic excellence, has once again demonstrated its commitment to celebrating outstanding talents in the visual arts industry.

In a prestigious event held at Oshodi Arts Gallery on the 18th of February 2025, the institution presented the Excellence in Innovative Mixed Media and Material Exploration Award to Miss Oluwafeyikemi (Feyi) Adekunle, a distinguished Nigerian-born mixed media artist and researcher whose groundbreaking work bridges the realms of art and science.

The award, endorsed by The Society of Nigerian Artists and the Association of Nigerian Artisans and Technicians (ASNAT),  recognizes Feyi’s exceptional contributions to contemporary art through her innovative fusion of materials, textures, and scientific principles.

According to Dr. Oshodi Seyi Paul, the Chief Executive Officer of Oshodi Arts Gallery, Feyi Adekunle represents the spirit of modern creativity and intellectual depth that defines the new generation of Nigerian artists pushing global boundaries.

“Oluwafeyikemi (Feyi) Adekunle is a true embodiment of artistic innovation. Her works transcend the visual form—they engage the senses, intellect, and emotion.”

“By merging the precision of science with the fluidity of art, she creates something profoundly human and deeply transformative,” said Dr. Oshodi.

Miss Adekunle holds dual Ph.D. degrees in Fiber & Polymer Science and Textile Technology Management from North Carolina State University, USA.

Her research and practice focus on exploring the interplay between texture, structure, and emotion—merging fibers, resins, and unconventional materials to create multidimensional portraits and abstract compositions.

The award celebrates her ability to transform raw materials into expressive narratives that reflect transformation, resilience, and the unseen connections between matter and meaning.

In her brief remarks after receiving the honour, Feyi expressed gratitude to Oshodi Arts Gallery and the endorsing bodies for recognizing her efforts, emphasizing that her art seeks to provoke curiosity and inspire innovation among young African artists.

“This recognition reinforces my belief that art and science are not separate worlds—they are both languages of discovery. Through mixed media, I continue to explore how materials tell stories of identity, endurance, and connection,” she said.

The presentation marked another milestone for Oshodi Arts Gallery, which has consistently promoted creative excellence and innovation among Nigerian artists, serving as a bridge between traditional artistry and contemporary expressions across Africa and beyond.
