The immediate past Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina, paid an appreciation visit to His Royal Majesty, Oba (Engr.) Abdul Kabir Adewale Shotobi, the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, at his palace on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
The visit, held at the historic Ayangbure Palace, was attended by notable dignitaries including members of the Arewa community, Hon. Lateef Afinni (former Secretary to the Local Government), Hon. Banwo Azeez, Hon. Shafari Murisiku (Councillor, Ward C), Alhaja Rasheedat Bello (Divisional Woman Leader), and Chief Ayodele Elesho, among others.
Hon. Adesina presented an appreciation letter, an award, and a gift to the royal father in recognition of his unwavering support, guidance, and encouragement throughout his tenure as council chairman.
He expressed heartfelt gratitude to Oba Shotobi for his fatherly counsel and his consistent commitment to the progress of Ikorodu and its people.
“For the support Kabiyesi gave me during my time in office, I think it is necessary to show appreciation,” Adesina remarked, adding that leadership is not only about service but also about gratitude to those who contribute to one’s success.
The Ayangbure of Ikorodu commended Hon. Adesina for his humility, thoughtfulness, and respect for traditional authority. He also acknowledged Hon. Lateef Afinni, the former Secretary to the Local Government, for his loyalty and dedication during the administration.
“I appreciate your SLG for his loyalty, and I thank you all for the gift,” Oba Shotobi stated. “Don’t leave your party; always be present and committed,” he advised, urging political leaders to remain steadfast and active within their party structures.
The revered monarch further prayed for greater political advancement for the Ikorodu Division, expressing his hope that the next Governor of Lagos State would emerge from Ikorodu.
He also encouraged residents to participate actively in the democratic process by obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and voting during elections.
In a bid to promote civic responsibility, Oba Shotobi announced a reward initiative aimed at motivating voter participation.
He declared that any polling unit with the highest number of registered PVCs would receive ₦1 million, while the unit with the highest number of votes cast during elections would be rewarded with ₦5 million.
The Ayangbure concluded by calling on political leaders, party members, and the entire community to remain united, consistent, and dedicated to the development and prosperity of Ikorodu.
