GOVERNOR SANWO-OLU HONOURS OUTSTANDING CDAs AT LAGOS 2025 COMMUNITY DAY CELEBRATION ~ INN Nigeria ☆


The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to grassroots development during the 2025 Annual Community Day Celebration, held on 4 December 2025 at the Police College in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

At the event, five vehicles and several consolation prizes were presented to outstanding Community Development Associations (CDAs) for their remarkable self-help projects and contributions to community growth across the state.

The Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, was represented by his Deputy, Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hamzat.

In his keynote address, Dr. Hamzat emphasized the significance of this year’s theme, describing it as a call for renewed efforts in community transformation across all neighbourhoods in Lagos.

He encouraged communities to harness their resilience and collective spirit to build a forward-looking society and contribute to the state’s ambition of becoming a 21st-century economy.

He noted that the administration remains committed to maintaining strong partnerships with community leaders, recognising CDAs as dependable allies in Lagos’ development journey.

Dr. Hamzat praised their numerous self-help projects, community-driven initiatives, and consistent dedication, which continue to strengthen the social and economic foundation of the state.

He described CDAs as custodians of community harmony and champions of grassroots development whose efforts are vital to the state’s overall growth.

In his welcome address, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, explained that the annual celebration is a tribute to the spirit of unity, sacrifice, resilience, and self-help that drives community development across Lagos.

He reiterated that Governor Sanwo-Olu rewards outstanding CDAs to acknowledge their contributions.

Dr. Agbaje highlighted the administration’s community-focused projects, including Onishon Road in Ibeju-Lekki, Lamidi Agoro and Ganiyu Odutan Street in Igbogbo Baiyeku, Ijake Road in Ijanikin, Oto-Awori LCDA, and Sanni Street in Amukoko, Ifelodun LCDA, as well as the grading of access roads in Isiwu, Ikorodu, and Adekola Estate in Ikola-Ilumo, Alimosho, among others.

He also disclosed that within the past year, the state government has provided 69 electric transformers and 27 solar-powered streetlights to rural communities, further supporting local development.

Dr. Agbaje concluded by appreciating community leaders, CDAs, Community Development Committees (CDCs), and the State Advisory Council for their self-help initiatives and partnership with the Lagos State Government, which have significantly advanced development across the state.

A major highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the Best Grassroots Governor Award to Governor Sanwo-Olu by the Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council in recognition of his administration’s contributions to rural development.

Vehicles were awarded to the five top-performing CDAs: Iroko Estate CDA in Egbe-Idimu, Nitel Estate CDA in Ikorodu Local Government, Akinyele and Environs CDA, GuduGudu CDA as the best rural community, and Lagoon View CDA as the second-best rural community.

Additionally, ten other CDAs received one million naira each as consolation prizes for their efforts in community development.

The event drew the attendance of members of the Lagos State House of Assembly, state executives, party leaders, traditional rulers, and other distinguished guests, who all lauded the government’s commitment to empowering communities and fostering sustainable development across Lagos State.
