Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu has been honoured with the Merit Award for Best Grassroots Governor, a prestigious recognition presented by the Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council (LSCDAC) during the 2025 Community Day Celebration held on 4th December 2025 at the Police College, Ikeja.

The award, presented by Alhaji Azeez Amusat, Chairman of LSCDAC, was received on behalf of the Governor by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hamzat.

Speaking during the presentation, Alhaji Amusat commended Governor Sanwo-Olu for the deep impact of his THEMES Plus Agenda, noting that its influence is strongly felt across rural communities in Lagos State.

He emphasized that the administration has consistently demonstrated commitment to community development, aligning closely with LSCDAC’s mandate.

His remarks reinforced an earlier welcome message delivered by Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, who highlighted ongoing reforms, infrastructure upgrades, and people-centered initiatives transforming the grassroots landscape.

In his response, Dr. Hamzat expressed gratitude to LSCDAC for recognizing the Governor’s contributions.

He assured the council and residents of Lagos State of the administration’s continued dedication to strengthening community structures and deepening development through the Office of Rural Development.

This year’s Community Day Celebration was particularly remarkable, featuring the active participation of 5,000 Community Development Associations (CDAs) across Lagos State.

The gathering showcased diverse community projects, cultural displays, innovation exhibitions, and collaborative development models reflecting the strength of community governance in the state.

Among the dignitaries present were Dr. (Mrs.) Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, wife of the Governor; Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Lagos APC Chairman; and Hon. Kayode Bolaji Robert, Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, alongside several other government officials and community leaders.

The 2025 Community Day further underscored Lagos State’s commitment to participatory governance and grassroots empowerment—an approach that continues to earn Governor Sanwo-Olu commendation from community stakeholders across the state.
