The Lagoon View Community Development Association (CDA) in Ijede Local Council Development Area has been honoured with the prestigious 2nd Best Rural Community Award at the 2025 Lagos State Community Day Celebration, held on December 4th at the Police College, Alausa, Ikeja.
The annual event—which celebrates outstanding grassroots contributions to community development—was presided over by the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Kadri Hamzat, who represented the Executive Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
During the ceremony, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, highlighted the remarkable achievements of Lagoon View CDA.
According to him, the CDA, duly registered with the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, stands as a model for self-driven rural advancement within the Ikorodu Division.
Dr. Agbaje commended the association for its unwavering commitment to self-help projects, outlining key interventions that earned them state-wide recognition.
These include:
Construction of a 100-meter pedestrian wooden bridge linking the community to a neighbouring settlement in Igbogbo LCDA.
Grading of local streets to improve mobility and enhance environmental conditions.
Installation of five standard streetlights and five solar-powered streetlights to boost security and visibility at night.
Provision of welfare assistance for widows and vulnerable residents, ensuring social inclusion.
Purchase and installation of High Tension (HT) and Low Tension (LT) concrete poles to strengthen the community’s electricity infrastructure.
“These achievements,” Dr. Agbaje noted, “reflect the uncommon selflessness, unity of purpose, and communal spirit that Lagoon View CDA is known for.”

In recognition of their exemplary performance, the First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Mrs. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, and Pst Cornelius Ojelabi, Lagos APC Party Chairman presented the community with a brand-new water supply tricycle, a strategic support item aimed at improving access to potable water.
Reacting to the empowerment, the Executive Chairman of Ijede LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, applauded the Lagos State Government for its sustained support to grassroots development.
She praised Governor Sanwo-Olu for effectively implementing the THEMES Plus Agenda, which continues to drive progress across all sectors of the state.
Hon. Gbadebo-Alogba also congratulated Lagoon View CDA for making Ijede proud, stressing that their achievement reflects the LCDA’s collective dedication to rural transformation and community empowerment.
The 2025 Community Day celebration once again reinforced Lagos State’s commitment to recognising and promoting community-led initiatives that foster sustainable development and enhance the quality of life for residents at the grassroots.
