The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, has reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to data-driven planning and grassroots development as he attended a one-day training seminar and workshop on the Consumption Expenditure Survey for members of the Community Development Advisory Council (CDAC) and field officers.
The capacity-building programme which was held in Alausa was organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget in collaboration with the Lagos Bureau of Statistics.
The workshop brought together key government officials, community development stakeholders, and data officers to strengthen their understanding of consumption expenditure data collection, analysis, and its critical role in economic planning and policy formulation.
Dr. Agbaje, while addressing participants, emphasized the importance of credible and reliable data in shaping sustainable rural development initiatives across Lagos State.
He noted that accurate consumption expenditure surveys provide government with deeper insights into household spending patterns, living standards, and socio-economic realities at the grassroots level.
According to him, such data-driven approaches enable the state government to design targeted interventions that address real community needs, reduce inequality, and enhance inclusive growth.
Also in attendance was the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Civic Engagement and Political Matters, Dr. Tajudeen Afolabi, who underscored the importance of synergy between government institutions and community stakeholders in achieving meaningful development outcomes.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget, Mrs. Olayinka Ojo highlighted the technical objectives of the survey, stressing that the training was designed to equip field officers and CDAC members with the necessary tools and methodologies for accurate data gathering and reporting.
Chairman of the Lagos State Community Development Advisory Council (LSCDAC), Alhaji Azeez Amusat, commended the initiative, describing it as a strategic move to strengthen community-level participation in the state’s economic planning process.
The workshop featured interactive sessions, technical briefings, and practical guidance on survey implementation standards, ethical considerations, and data validation processes.
The Consumption Expenditure Survey is expected to support Lagos State’s broader development agenda by providing empirical evidence to guide budgetary allocations, social protection programmes, and rural development strategies.
The training marks another step in the state government’s ongoing efforts to institutionalize evidence-based governance and deepen community engagement in policy implementation.
