The Special Adviser to Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, on Friday, March 13, 2026, conducted an inspection tour of several communities benefiting from the state government’s ongoing rural electrification initiative, urging Community Development Associations (CDAs) to take ownership of the infrastructure and ensure proper maintenance.

The inspection exercise was aimed at assessing the progress of transformer installations and other supporting facilities delivered by the Lagos State Governor, Dr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, through the Office of Rural Development to underserved communities across the Ikorodu axis.

Dr. Agbaje first visited Banana Estate CDA Phase One in Igbe-Lara, located within Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area.

The community recently received a brand-new transformer from the Lagos State Government, alongside the installation of electricity poles to facilitate the connection of power supply after the installation process.

The Special Adviser was received by the Chairman of Banana Estate Igbe-Lara CDA Phase One, Mr. Keshinro Kamil, who expressed appreciation to the state government for extending critical infrastructure to the community.

Addressing residents during the visit, Dr. Agbaje urged the community and CDA leadership to take ownership of the project upon completion, emphasizing that community participation is crucial to the sustainability of government interventions.

He noted that Governor Sanwo-Olu remains committed to bridging infrastructure gaps between urban and rural communities, particularly through strategic projects aimed at improving living conditions and stimulating socio-economic growth in underserved areas.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu is working tirelessly to ensure that communities across Lagos State, especially those in rural areas, are not left behind in the distribution of essential amenities,” Dr. Agbaje stated.

The inspection team also moved to Pacesetter CDA in the Ibeshe axis of the same LCDA, where another electrification project is currently underway as part of the state government’s rural development agenda.

The tour later continued to Ajaiyi-Oronti Community Development Association (CDA) in Agbele, within Ikorodu Local Government Area, where a new transformer had also been delivered and installed to enhance electricity supply within the community.

At the location, Dr. Agbaje was received by the Councillor representing Ward F in Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Oluwakemi Buraimoh, alongside the Chairman of Ajaiyi-Oronti CDA, Alhaji Abeeb Adegbite, who both commended the Lagos State Government for its sustained commitment to rural development.

They noted that the electrification project would significantly boost economic activities and improve the living conditions of residents in the community.

Dr. Agbaje was accompanied on the inspection tour by Engr. Oriyomi Hassan from the Technical Department of the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, who joined in assessing the technical progress of the installations.

The ongoing rural electrification initiative forms part of the Lagos State Government’s broader efforts to expand access to electricity, support small-scale businesses, and promote inclusive development across rural communities in the state.
