The suspect, Idris Ayinla 'm' aged 33, alongside three other occupants were in a red Toyota Matrix with registration number EKY 638 EX, heading towards Oniru Beach when the operatives on routine patrol of Admiralty Road, Ikoyi flagged them down.
After the driver had brought the car to a stop, one of the occupants offered the officers some money, which they declined, rather insisting on searching the vehicle. Sensing danger, the suspects all ran out of the car and one of them, Idris Ayinla, shot at the operatives while attempting to escape. The operatives responded swiftly, as a result of which he sustained a gunshot wound on his leg, arrested him and recovered his firearm.
The suspect has since been transferred to the Command headquarters for harmonization with ongoing investigations into activities of cultists within the state, after which all culpable suspects will be arraigned. Meanwhile, efforts are on to arrest the fleeing suspects.

Lagos State Government has once again warned young adults, particularly teenagers and youths, against negative peer pressure that could lead them to indulge in drug and substance abuse and illicit trafficking activities.
<p>
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Olusegun Ogboye who gave this warning recently at a School Awareness and Sensitisation programme to commemorate the Y2023 International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Lagos, noted that peer pressure has been linked to drug and substance abuse, misuse, addiction and illicit trafficking, especially amongst teenagers and youths.

Speaking through the Director, of Pharmaceutical Services, Mrs Oyebisi Omolanbe, at the programme held at the Agidingbi Senior Secondary School in Ikeja, Ogboye explained that people particularly teenagers and youths may be obligated to use and abuse drugs and substances if their peers are doing it.
<p>
“Peers play a significant role in our lives, especially in late childhood and adolescence, however, negative peer pressure with regards to misuse and abuse of drugs and substances as well as trafficking of the same comes with a lot of burden and negative consequences”, he said.
<p>
Speaking further at the event which was organised by Lagos State Interministerial Drug Abuse Control Committee, Ogboye posited that young people must be equipped with skills and the ability to take their minds off drugs and stand up to say NO to peers who may want to lure them into drug and substance abuse.
<p>
“We are here to sensitise, educate and empower young minds with information that will help them make the right choices. Knowledge, they say, is power, so having the right information about the abuse of drugs and substances and how to stay clear of it cannot be overemphasised.
<p>
“Drug and substance abuse can affect every aspect of a child’s life and also hurt society. So the earlier we nip it in the bud, the better for our youths and the society”, he said.
<p>
Ogboye noted that the Y2023 United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking commemorative theme: “People First: Stop Stigma And Discrimination, Strengthening Prevention”, is well thought out.
<p>
He added that it is important that the mental health of citizens is prioritised, stressing that the fight against the abuse of drugs is a collective responsibility of everyone.
<p>
“So this year’s theme is people-centred. Addicts and people who abuse drugs and substances should not be treated as criminals but treated as patients. We should see them as being ill. The way you treat any other patient is the way they should be treated. But for the suppliers, the distributors, they should be treated as criminals”, Ogboye said.
<p>
The Permanent Secretary stated that the awareness programme organised for the school children has created an opportunity to share facts on the dangers of drug abuse and also equip them with basic skills to say no to drug abuse.
<p>
He, however, tasked all stakeholders to continue to evolve strategies targeting youths and young adults and implement well-thought-out interventions to achieve the required developmental goals in a drug-abuse-free society.
<p>
Dr Oluseyi Odewale, who was the facilitator at the event, explained that the abuse of substances can mess up the brain of a young person and lead to dependency as the brain of a young person is not fully developed and can affect the place of judgment which will hurt how the child relates in the society.
<p>
“The brains of young people are still developing. And any attempt to introduce any substance to that developing brain, will mess it up and the last place to develop is the place of judgment, which is the place of executive functions such as memory, learning, decision-making, ability to weigh down time”, she said. <p>
She, however, urged the students to carefully select their friends to avoid negative peer pressure that could lead to drug abuse and addiction.
<p>
A representative of Pam Pharmaceutical Limited, Joseph Oluwaseun, who collaborated with the state government in the celebration of the Y2023 World Drug Abuse Day, commended the State Government for running an all-inclusive system of governance with the private sector.
<p>
He assured that Pam Pharmaceutical will continue to engage in productive collaboration with the State Government in the fight against drug abuse, adding that the fight against drug abuse is a collective responsibility of all citizens.

The Media Office of the Deputy Governor in a Rejoinder titled ‘Lagos Deputy Governor, Hamzat takes Oath of Allegiance to Renounce Nigeria – Immigration Lawyer’ and issued to journalists on Friday, said the reports are not true reflections of the record of proceedings of the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal of June 21, 2023.
The Media Office stated that “There is nowhere in the verifiable record of proceedings of the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal of 21st of June 2023, when the evidence of one Miss Olubusayo Fasidi, a U.S immigration lawyer, was taken to support the misleading online reports that the incumbent Deputy Governor of Lagos State has renounced his Nigerian Citizenship. “In a bid to advance the course of the Labour Party outside of the proceedings of the Election Tribunal, the reports have deliberately set out to mislead members of the general public and to whip up sentiments against the incumbent Governor of Lagos State, and his Deputy.”
The Deputy Governor Media Office, therefore advised members of the public to disregard the deliberate falsehood being bandied about regarding the status of the citizenship of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State. Commenting on the proceeding of the tribunal on June 21, the Deputy Governor Media Office stated that “the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal took the evidence of one Miss Olubusayo Fasidi, a U.S immigration lawyer who admitted to practising in the United States of America.
“She was subpoenaed by the Petitioner to give evidence as to the status of the 3rd Respondent as a Nigerian Citizen before the Tribunal. However, Objections were raised as regards her status as a subpoenaed Witness, given that she had no Written Statement on Oath before the Tribunal; moreover, her Written Statement on Oath, filed out of time was eventually withdrawn by the Counsel to the Petitioner. “Notwithstanding the Objections, the Tribunal in her overriding wisdom allowed the Witness to proceed to give oral evidence and reserved its ruling as regards the Objections raised till the final judgement. Thus, during the Examination-in-Chief, the said subpoenaed witness tendered two documents namely, a blank Form of Application for U.S Naturalization and a blank Oath of U.S Allegiance Document, tagged Forms 8CFR/337 and N400 respectively which were admitted and marked as Exhibits. “When the witness was confronted with the fact that the only two documents, she was basing her claims on, were merely downloaded blank documents, the witness stated that she had downloaded the blank documents from the official website of the US Embassy. The witness was thus unable to produce the actual documents, the specific jurisdiction of the United States and the particular date when the 3rd Respondent applied for naturalization or took the purported Oath of Allegiance. She equally admitted that she had not attended the ceremony admitting Dr Hamzat as a citizen of the United States of America.
“The testimony of the witness in question is under serious challenge and in its final judgment the Tribunal will decide whether her testimony is admissible, given that she did not file a witness statement on oath and the self-contradiction of still using a Nigerian passport whilst claiming to have renounced Nigerian citizenship.”

REJOINDER: ‘LAGOS DEPUTY GOVERNOR, HAMZAT TAKES OATH OF ALLEGIANCE TO RENOUNCE NIGERIA – IMMIGRATION LAWYER’
Introduction/ Background
Our attention has been drawn to inaccurate reports of the proceedings of the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, circulating on various online platforms to the effect that - ‘Lagos Deputy Governor, Renounced Nigerian Citizenship’ The aforestated is not what transpired at the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal on the 21st of June 2023. In a bid to advance the course of the Labour Party outside of the proceedings of the Election Tribunal, the reports have deliberately set out to mislead members of the general public and to whip up sentiments against the incumbent Governor of Lagos State, and his Deputy. The Distortion of The Proceedings At The Tribunal
The truth of what transpired at the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which is verifiable from the Records of the Tribunal, and accessible to the public, is detailed below:
On the 21st of June 2023, the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal took the evidence of one Miss Olubusayo Fasidi, a U.S. immigration lawyer who admitted to practising in the United States of America. She was subpoenaed by the Petitioner to give evidence as to the status of the 3rd Respondent as a Nigerian Citizen before the Tribunal. However, Objections were raised as regards her status as a subpoenaed Witness, given that she had no Written Statement on Oath before the Tribunal; moreover, her Written Statement on Oath, filed out of time was eventually withdrawn by the Counsel to the Petitioner. Notwithstanding the Objections, the Tribunal in her overriding wisdom allowed the Witness to proceed to give oral evidence and reserved its ruling as regards the Objections raised till the final judgement. Thus, during the Examination-in-Chief, the said subpoenaed witness tendered two documents namely, a blank Form of Application for U.S Naturalization and a blank Oath of U.S Allegiance Document, tagged Forms 8CFR/337 and N400 respectively which were admitted and marked as Exhibits. When the witness was cross-examined by the 1st Respondent’s (INEC) Counsel- the witness was asked whether she was a Nigerian citizen, and she answered in the affirmative. Concerning the question of whether the witness is a citizen of the United States of America, she equally answered in the affirmative; having naturalized before that time.
When Counsel further asked the witness whether she has renounced her Nigerian Citizenship, the witness responded in the affirmative. The witness confirmed she was familiar with the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution however she declined to respond to questions bordering on the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution regarding dual citizenship and renunciation of citizenship (as provided for in sections 28 and 29 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended), on the premise that her evidence is limited to her knowledge of the Immigration law of the United States of America, without more.
During cross-examination by Counsel for the 2nd and 3rd Respondents (the incumbent Governor and Deputy Governor of Lagos State), enquired from the witness whether she entered the country with a Nigerian visiting visa, given her claims of renouncing her Nigerian citizenship, but the witness said she did not need a Nigerian visiting visa because she still retained her Nigerian passport.
The witness was asked about the nature of her relationship with one Anna Nweke, to which she responded that Anna Nweke was the person who attested to the documents (Forms 8CFR/337 and N400) that she tendered as exhibits, as to where the attestation was done, she said that the attestation was done upon her arrival in Lagos State, Nigeria.
When the witness was confronted with the fact that the only two documents, she was basing her claims on, were merely downloaded blank documents, the witness stated that she had downloaded the blank documents from the official website of the US Embassy. The witness was thus unable to produce the actual documents, the specific jurisdiction of the United States and the particular date when the 3rd Respondent applied for naturalization or took the purported Oath of Allegiance. She equally admitted that she had not attended the ceremony admitting Dr Hamzat as a citizen of the United States of America.
During her cross-examination by Counsel to the 4th Respondent (APC), the witness admitted to the fact that the American Constitution recognizes dual citizenship with particular reference to the 14th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States ratified on July 9, 1868. The witness was challenged further that the documents she tendered support the process of application for naturalization which ultimately culminates in the issuance of an American passport and nothing more.
The witness in reaction to additional questions confirmed that she did not need to obtain a Nigerian Visiting Visa because she entered the country with her Nigerian Passport.
Concerning the question of whether the witness was aware that the 3rd Respondent fully disclosed the details of his American Citizenship in Form EC9 submitted to INEC, the witness answered in the affirmative. When the witness was again asked whether she had ever sighted the Oath of Allegiance of US Citizenship Form of the 3rd Respondent, the witness responded in the negative. Conclusion/Advisory
Flowing from the above, there is nowhere in the verifiable record of proceedings of the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal of 21st of June 2023, when the evidence of one Miss Olubusayo Fasidi, a U.S immigration lawyer, was taken to support the misleading online reports that the incumbent Deputy Governor of Lagos State has renounced his Nigerian Citizenship. Members of the public are hereby advised to disregard the deliberate falsehood being bandied about regarding the status of the citizenship of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State. The testimony of the witness in question is under serious challenge and in its final judgment the Tribunal will decide whether her testimony is admissible, given that she did not file a witness statement on oath and the self-contradiction of still using a Nigerian passport whilst claiming to have renounced Nigerian citizenship.

fb img 16863785586661705408803098953377 The attention of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has been drawn to the recurring fake news circulating on social media, purported to have been said by the Governor of Lagos State Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu that, "Henceforth no LASTMA Officials should arrest any motorist, either commercial or private.
LASTMA must manage traffic and not arrest".
A statement released by the Director, of the Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr Adebayo Taofiq said the General Manager of the Agency, Mr Bolaji Oreagba had previously debunked the fake online news which had alleged that LASTMA Officials were banned from arresting motorists who flout the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
Mr Oreagba explained that the false report, which is the handiwork of faceless mischief makers, has been repeatedly circulated online since February 2020 despite being severally refuted by the management of LASTMA.
He warned Lagosians, especially motorists, to be wary of online reports aimed at causing chaos and mischief within the society.
"I wonder why some individuals choose to always mislead others to contravene the traffic law of the State as amended by the State House of Assembly in 2018", he noted.
General Manager hinted that part of the Agency's responsibility is to uphold and enforce the traffic laws of the State, maintaining that the officers and men of LASTMA will not hesitate to enforce those laws whenever violated to transform the State's transportation system towards ensuring the free flow of traffic and reducing road accidents.
According to him, "The motoring public is advised to ignore and disregard all fake news circulated by faceless individuals and designed to lead them into breaking the traffic law of the State".
He stated further that all working ethics of the Authority, including its operations, are being regulated by the State's Laws.
General Manager confirmed that the Agency is currently operating with modern technological innovations in addressing traffic challenges by equipping traffic management personnel with new hand-held Traffic Management Solution (TMS) devices that capture real-time traffic violations on the road, in addition to a signalised intersection and junction improvement.

This year's festivities hold a dual significance as it coincides with the 5th coronation anniversary of the revered Sekumade of Ipakodo, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Oba Aremu Shotonwa.
The celebration began in earnest with a spectacular woro procession, which saw the active participation of the youth and residents.

It will be recalled that the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District launched the quarterly Food Packs Programme in June 2023. This is the second edition of the well applauded programme targeted at vulnerable people, namely; widows, unemployed youth, aged, women and People living with disabilities are drawn across the 98 wards in the 16 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development areas of the district. Constituents trooped out en masse to various collections in Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Somolu and Kosofe LGAs to collect the Food Packs containing:Goldenvita, Semo Vita, Garri, Pure Soya Oil, Spread(Butter), Granulated Sugar, Pasta Couscous, Pasta Macaroni, Pasta Spaghetti, Noodles Jollof, Noodles GMPS and Amazing Day Breakfast Cereal. In his remarks, Senator Abiru, fondly called the #DoingGood Senator, said the food packs programme was a direct intervention for the people at the grassroot who are feeling the heat of the economic pangs occasioned by the removal of petroleum subsidy. According to him, the Food Packs will support the most vulnerable households in this challenging period.
The Senator also assured that he will not relent in championing legislations, programmes and interventions that will have lasting impacts on the larger number of the constituents of Lagos East. He said SAIL Innovation Lab, the first of its kind Innovation Lab in Lagos East, founded by him and his wife, Feyisola was set up to offer sustainable and globally competitive jobs and opportunities to young people of the district. Senator Abiru said a sizable number of youths had been trained in digital and tech-related programmes that are well sought-after globally. On the critical Ikorodu-Itokin road which serves as a major road that links the Ikorodu to Epe and Ibeju-Lekki, and other parts of the country, he assured that the new government of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown commitment to implement the awarded rehabilitation project. It is imperative to state that this is not the first direct humanitarian assistance for the needy that the distinguished Senator Abiru has done. It will be recalled that the Lagos East Senator disbursed more than N150 million Naira in about 24 months to over 2,500 vulnerable people under his COVID-19 Financial Relief Scheme. Every month, beneficiaries received direct credit of N5,000 each for the period the programme lasted.
Some of the beneficiaries who expressed gratitude to Senator Abiru include; Muftau Adegboyega Tojuowo, a Person Living with a Disability, other include, Anuoluwapo Zainab, Tiletile Kazeem Idowu, Folake Akerele and Niyi Oyeniran.

"Registration for the show has officially begun, allowing individuals and educational institutions i.e. public and private junior and senior secondary schools can sign up and participate". Mall of Fame Nigeria has also partnered with Afristar Productions, a renowned media production company, to ensure the highest production quality and captivating content.
During the press conference, Mr Olugbenga Komolafe extended his gratitude to Landmark Corporate Realty LTD for their generous sponsorship of the project.
