2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS: IGP ORDERS RESTRICTION OF MOVEMENT ON ELECTION DAY, REAFFIRMS BAN ON VIP AIDES, ESCORTS, STATE SECURITY OUTFITS PARTICIPATION ®™√ INN Nigeria © top presidential candidates5440206130507902834 Consequent to the first part of the 2023 General Elections – the Presidential and National Assembly Elections – scheduled to hold on Saturday 25th February 2023 across all States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered a restriction of all forms of vehicular movement on roads, waterways, and other forms of transportation, from 12 am to 6 pm on election day except those on essential services such as INEC Officials, Electoral Observers, Ambulances responding to medical emergencies, firefighters, etc. The order which is part of measures emplaced to ensure a safe, secure, and conducive environment for the conduct of elections, is aimed at ensuring public order management, the safety of electorates, as well as assisting the security agencies' ineffective policing, thereby preventing hoodlums and criminally-minded elements from disrupting the electoral process. Similarly, the IGP sternly warns all security aides and escorts to desist from accompanying their principals and politicians to polling booths and collation centres during the election as anyone found flouting this directive will be severely sanctioned. He emphasizes that only security personnel specifically assigned to election duties are to be seen within and around the designated election booths and centres. Also, the ban on the unauthorised use of sirens, revolving lights, covered number plates, and tinted glasses is still in force, and violators would be sanctioned appropriately. All State-established and owned security outfits/organisations, quasi-security units, and privately-owned guard and security outfits are also barred from participating in election security management. While empathizing with well-meaning citizens on the inconveniences the restriction may cause, the IGP urges all active electorates to be law-abiding and turn out en masse to exercise their franchise. He however warns that the Force will deal decisively with any individual(s) or group(s) that might want to test our common resolve and might to ensure a peaceful election. The IGP, therefore, enjoins all citizens to shun vote buying, vote selling, hate speech, misinformation, and disinformation, snatching of ballot boxes, and other criminal act(s) as the Force and other security agencies will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that all violators of extant laws, most especially the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), are brought to book. The Nigeria Police Force, therefore, urges all members of the public to contact the Nigeria Police Force and the Joint Election Monitoring and Operations Room domiciled at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, via the ‘NPF Rescue Me App’ available on Android and ios, or via the NPF Rescue Me Emergency Toll-free line on 08031230631 to report suspicious persons, activities or request security response. Similarly, other joint operations/election situation room numbers will be released by all State Police Commands respectively, for emergency contact.

The ward, comprising 70 CDAs, standing firmly behind APC, brought out community leaders, ward excos and party members en mass, galvanising eligible voters before the general elections to aid the ruling party. Presided over by Pastor Samson Oluwasegun Omomo, Secretary to Ikorodu North CDC and Chairman of ward B3 Isiwu joint CDA, the program symbolised the CDAs official proclamation of support for the All Progressive Congress (APC) party ahead of the elections. Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, Bldr Adeola Adebisi Banjo, who was represented by Mr Niyi Odugbesi, Secretary to the council boss, told Ikorodu News Network (INN) that the agenda seeks to prepare voters ahead. As stated by Mr Niyi, "With the elections just days to go, this program strengthens the people's devotion to ensure victory for our party, the All Progressive Congress (APC)". "Despite the economic downturn due to the naira scarcity, we refused to be downtrodden and weak, we'll continue to send our message across right till Election Day". "While he had to catch up with another official assignment, Bldr Banjo requested I stood in the gap for him here, to engage our people and let them know that our country is in good hands with the APC, which will give us more developmental modification" Mr Niyi noted Comrade Adekoya Babatunde, a ward B3 CDA chairman, illustrated that every APC card carrier should not be worried about the ongoing naira scarcity, citing the crisis as an economic frustration ploy to sway party faithfuls from exercising their civic responsibility. He asserted that all members singing the mandate song for the development of Nigeria should be ready to demonstrate it on the 25th of February and March 11th with their PVC, voting all APC candidates from top to bottom. Another ward B3 Isiwu chairman, Mrs Agiri Adetokunbo, in her short message, explained to able voters their expectations before and during election day. Emphasising the need for voters to come out early on election Day, she exhorted the ward leaders to adhere to the right approach to carry out a successful franchise process. "When you're done voting, you can equally rush back to your neighbourhood, compelling those yet to vote to take off to their voting booth and do the needful as well," she said. Speaking on her party of choice which is the APC, Mrs Adetokunbo explained the power of women in campaigning and canvassing for voters. Matthew Adesanya, represented by Mr Adeyemi Habeeb, told Ikorodu News Network (INN) that even though Senator Abiru's job is to legislate, he has pushed beyond his commitment to execute numerous projects across the Lagos East. According to Adeyemi Habeeb, The forum is established to propagate the feats of Senator Tokunbo Abiru and also mobilise voters to re-elect him back to the office. Detailing the accomplishments of the Senator, Habeeb said an 80-seater bed hospital was established in Ikorodu North LCDA by Senator Abiru to support the Isiwu community, which lessened the stress load on Ikorodu general hospital. Habeeb clarified that Senator Abiru also facilitated the installation of transformers. "There are elders in the community that are beneficiaries of Senator Abiru's covid-19 relief aid, putting 10 thousand naira in their account monthly, not to talk about students' bursary programs which the distinguished Senator has consistently provided too". "We came to accentuate his works to allow the 70 CDAs to understand what the Senator has performed in the last two years". Sheikh Olowo-Oribi further prayed to Almighty Allah to grant Bola Tinubu long life, good health and wisdom with which he would oversee the nation to a prestigious elevation as President. Subsequently, the Grand Chief Imam and over a hundred rabi Imams who assembled in the mosque, read the full Quran to offer prayers for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The former Governor of Lagos had said it would not be proper for him as a statesman to be celebrating when such a tragedy had befallen the nation. This year, the president-elect said the date, which falls within the holy month of Ramadan, should be dedicated to prayers and seeking God's guidance for him and the country as he prepares to take the reins of leadership.

Mudashiru Obasa; Secretary to the State Government, Mrs Folasade Jaji, members of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), political and religious leaders on Wednesday held a thanksgiving service and special prayers in different parts of Lagos to celebrate the 71st birthday of the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. The thanksgiving service and special prayers were held simultaneously at Chapel of Christ the Light and Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Alausa, Ikeja as well as in the Central Mosques of the five divisions in the State – Ikorodu, Badagry, Ikeja, Lagos and Epe. During the special birthday thanksgiving and special prayers, Governor Sanwo-Olu and members of his cabinet, GAC members, and political and religious leaders showered encomiums on the President-elect for his leadership, mentorship and passion for Lagos and Nigeria. Islamic and Christian clerics also prayed for the celebrant, Asiwaju Tinubu; for Peace, Progress, Unity and New Nigeria. Prayers were also held for a successful Inauguration Day (May 29) and for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dr Obafemi Hamzat. Speaking at the Special Prayers held at Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Alausa, Governor Sanwo-Olu, reiterated calls for Nigerians to be steadfast in their prayers for the President-elect to succeed as the president of the country. Sanwo-Olu, who was represented at the event by Dr Hamzat stated that no leader has the intention to fail but sometimes gets overwhelmed by challenges and unexpected issues upon assumption of office. He, therefore, seeks the continuous prayers of Nigerians that the President-elect be surrounded by good people as advisers and aides who have the interest of the country and the citizens at heart. Sanwo-Olu disclosed that Tinubu has a lot of good plans for Nigerians and will surely perform well in office. He, however, solicited the support and understanding of Nigerians as Asiwaju Tinubu leads the country to greater heights. “Asiwaju himself is very grateful to Almighty Allah for what He has done for him, my prayer for him is for Allah to be with him, to guide him to achieve those things he desires for this country because he has a lot of plans. He, therefore, sought ardent prayers for Tinubu for “divine wisdom, robust good health, victory over his enemies, and for him to finish his terms successfully.” The Prelate Emeritus also congratulated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, for their victory in the March 18 gubernatorial poll, saying their re-election was possible because of their hard work and people-oriented programmes. "I will advise Tinubu to choose his team of ministers, advisers, and ambassadors under divine prayers. He should consult God before man. He should use the best brains and professionals, even from the opposition parties to actualise his dreams of a better Nigeria. “Tinubu must work on achieving religious tolerance, and ethnic and tribal unity. He must ensure that social amenities are in abundance -water, electricity, educational and medical rehabilitation, agricultural revolution and development, and ensure massive job creation to reduce unemployment and brain drain," Makinde advised the President-elect. Also speaking, the Chief Imam, Alausa Secretariat Community Central, Imam, Abdul-Hakeem Abdul-Gafar, during his lecture stated that the gathering was to give thanks to Allah for permitting Asiwaju to emerge as the President-elect at the concluded presidential election and for preserving his life to witness his 71st birthday which comes up in the Holy Month of Ramadan. In his remarks, the National Missioner of the Ansar- ud- deen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh AbdurRahman Ahmad, charged Nigerians to continually pray for the President-elect that Allah should help him, lead and guide him in the journey. He added that the people need to be supportive by being constructive, truthful and privately correcting him and not continually praising him. Sheikh Ahmad also urged them to acknowledge that Asiwaju Tinubu is not a magician knowing that the few months ahead may be tough and therefore, the people need to be tolerant as there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
