ii877655tg3669673749504445457 For a maiden edition, Ipakodo Day Celebrations have been considered by most attendees as a festival that outshines expectations. An extravaganza that was presumed to be borrowed as a yardstick to measure further improvement criteria became a pace-setting occasion, exceeding the odds that were once related before it.
Even Ipakodo development association (IDA), organisers of the maiden edition would retreat after its ground-breaking grand finale, which took place at Ebute ferry terminal, popularly known as Dangote in Ipakodo.
Attracting esteemed dignitaries across the Ikorodu division, the festival was received by all in attendance as if it had already been in existence, paving the way to sophisticated editions ahead.
With a cultural heritage in full display as promised, the event harboured paramount rulers including HRMs; Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, Oba Olukayode David Raji, Eweye of Isiwu kingdom, Oba (Dr.) Adeoriyomi Oluwasesan Abdul-Akeem Oyebo, Obateru of Egbin kingdom, Oba Richard Abayomi Ogunsanya, Olubeshe of Ibeshe, Baales and kingmakers across the waterbed region.
Clarifying that the idea behind the celebration goes beyond merely gathering together for merry-making, Prince Olasunkanmi Shotonwa, in his speech, stated that the event is conceived to provide a veritable platform for the promotion of cultural renaissance, economic development and peaceful coexistence among indigenes and all residents of Ipakodo Kingdom, irrespective of tribe or belief system.
According to him, the festival's finale is a medium to honour illustrious sons and daughters who are doing well in their various sectors of life and also to recognise other outstanding residents, honorary chiefs, traditional leaders and political leaders who have in one way or the other contributed to the development of the kingdom.
Thanking His Royal Majesty, Oba Bashiru Aremu Sotonwa, (Osomeku 1) Sekumade of Ipakodo for envisioning the commencement of the Celebrations, Prince Olasunkanmi cited the event as a new dawn in the history of Ipakodo community.
A major high point of the finale was the unveiling of Ipakodo Hall-of-Fame, a segment that honours past heroes, another medium to relate history to the upcoming generations of Ipakodo community.
In his remarks, HRM, Oba Bashiru Aremu Sotonwa, Sekumade of Ipakodo thanked the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, particularly on the newly rehabilitated Oba Sekumade Road in Ipakodo.
Extending his heartfelt gratitude to Senator Tokunbo Abiru who doubles as the chairman of the occasion for championing courses to transform lives, the paramount ruler also acknowledged the Otun of Ikorodu Division, Hon Babajimi Benson (MHR), for bringing smiles to the faces of Ipakodo residents.
He later praised the Majority Leader of the Lagos State house of Assembly and Member representing Ikorodu Constituency 1, Hon S.O.B Agunbaide for his legislative interventions towards the rehabilitation of the Oba Sekumade Road.
"Like the historic elephant killed by our progenitor, Prince Sekumade, Ipakodo Kingdom has risen from its decades of slumber into socio-political consciousness".
"We are now ready to take our rightful place in the scheme of things among the league of communities in Ikorodu Division, Lagos State and Nigeria at large" Oba Sotonwa asserted.
Further intimating guests in attendance, the Chairman of the occasion, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, represented by Dr Saheed Ibikunke, noted that Ipakodo is endowed with a rich cultural heritage and should be showcased to the world.
Proclaiming the festival as long overdue, Senator Abiru exhorts residents to collaborate with the celebration and realise more gains.
Reiterating his accomplishments in his 21 (twenty-one) months in office, Abiru concluded that the festival is a veritable avenue for the socio-economic development of communities.
In his brief appearance and statement, Hon SOB Agunbiade, ML, Lagos state house of Assembly, representing Ikorodu constituency 1 applauded His Royal Majesty, Oba Bashiru Aremu for making the festival a reality.
He further urged the organisers to make the annual event an avenue to educate youths in the community about the cultures, traditions and history of the land. At the high point of the event, an award of recognition was presented to dignitaries that have stirred up development in the land, while the first Sekumade and Baale were inducted into the Ipakodo hall of fame. Others in attendance include; Hon Sulaiman Olarewaju, Executive Chairman, Ikorodu West LCDA, Otunba Ayodele Elesho, Chief Asipa Kaoli Olusanya, Dr Taiwo Hassan, Executive Director, Ikorodu General Hospital, Ndi-Igbo union, Arewa set in Ipakodo community, etc.

ADELANI SQUAD DEFEATS TEAM ABATAN BY TWO GOALS TO MARK YOUTH ACTIVITY AT IPAKODO DAY CELEBRATION ®™√ INN Nigeria ©

The soothing evening of the celebration fascinated inhabitants of the community with a football game, giving rise to a more sensational idea for the yearly extravaganza.
Graced by HRM, Oba Bashiru Aremu Shotonwa and his royal posse, Team Abatan squared off against Team Adelani in a grilling match that lasted for 60 minutes.
Receiving positive reviews, the soccer clash consisted of a subdivision of sets of the Ipakodo all-stars club, with the first half of play staying goalless on both sides.
Team Abatan, which harbours much older players displayed experience but provided missed chances, eventually settling with the consequences for their lost opportunities.
Entering the second half, team Adelani subdued possession of the rivalry by netting two goals in both the early and late minutes of the contest to seal the victory.
Physically spent, both teams received standing applause from football enthusiasts, as well as the paramount ruler, motioning the demand for a sporting event to be permanently inserted as part of the annual extravaganza.
Thanking His Royal Majesty for attending the game, and overseeing the charge for Ipakodo youths, Dr Abiodun Fatai Abatan attributed the monarch for making the event outstanding, subsequently presenting an honorary hat to the paramount leader.
Olisa of Ipakodo, High Chief Oludayo Shotomiwa, in attendance, praised the youth for putting together a sensational game to jive up the festival, exhorting them to make plans for a better competition ahead for the next edition.
He continued, "With games like this, we'll be able to attract more youths to get involved in this festival, this is why I'll like to solicit the organisers to work towards a bigger competition".
"The palace will support their contest in every way necessary to guarantee it gets bigger and more formidable with prices attached". "If we have such ideas put into the celebration annually, it will go a long way to achieve extra popularity" Chief Oludayo affirmed
HRM, Oba Bashiru Aremu Shotonwa, complimented the remarks made by Olisa of Ipakodo, instructing the team to prepare for a bigger game come next edition, assuring sponsorship from the palace.
Others in attendance at the event include; Chief Olatunji Aluko, Baale of Owutu, Prof. Kunle Ade Wahab, Asiwaju of Ipakodo, Chief OYO Fatola, Baale of Ogolonto, Chief Musafan Jokogbola, Baale of Agbede Olunla, Chief Jaiyesimi, Baale of Ori-Okuta, Prince Olasunkanmi Shotonwa, Chairman, Ipakodo development association, etc.

898755ujio2641419072940954378 The official opening of Ipakodo day celebration 2022 in Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area (LCDA) set off with a conventional Woro parade on the 3rd of October, letting the world know, it's time for the region's endowment to be recognized.
Showcasing its lineage and ancestral origin, time-honoured administrators, youth leaders and residents alike joined the parade which in no doubt sounded the alarm on the maiden annual spectacle.
Aimed at creating a platform through which dwellers, indigenes and stakeholders of Ipakodo community can socialise and exhibits their various antecedents, the procession kicked off in the early hours of the mild weather Monday.
Besides Ipabi/Esugbo to emisson road, the convoy walked through David's crescent to Dele Kuti axis, Olayinka-Igbajigbo down to Dangote roundabout, by the ferry terminal, from TOS Benson back to Oba Sekumade's Palace (where it started from), the entire community was pitched to the new social extravaganza.
With maximum security on ground to co-ordinate the various routes, the procession was peaceful, calm, exciting and entertaining.
As the ceremony later converged at the Palace, HRM, Oba (Engr.) Bashiru Aremu Shotonwa, (Sekumade Of Ipakodo), royal father of the ceremony communicated his appreciation to traditional leaders, youths (ably led by Dr Fatai Abiodun Abatan) and dwellers for making the maiden flag-off memorable.
Noting the festival as the inception of a bigger course for the land, Oba Aremu Shotonwa explained that for every great stride, there's always a starting point.
He continued, "I've been on the throne for 5 years, and obviously, a celebration of this kind should have commenced prior, but it's good we have eventually done it and this will be used as a yardstick for subsequent editions".
"Ikorodu Oga Day Celebration, Igbogbo Day Celebration and Imota Ayayo Day all started distinctively, and their consistency has made them unique. That's why Ipakodo Day celebration will set its pace and build on its trajectory".
"We're going to give the world a pass to see what we have to offer in terms of our culture and other natural endowments, it is a thing of elation as we hope to keep going in this dimension" HRM added
According to the Olisa Of Ipakodo Kingdom, High Chief Oludayo Shotomiwa (who spoke briefly with Ikorodu News Network {INN}), stated that the Woro procession is meant to unite residents of the gateway community for good measures, inferring them with the advent of the festivity.
"It is about consenting the world to know about our Business, Culture and socioeconomic values, also for the improvement and expansion of Ipakodo kingdom".
"We're using this medium to uncover the growth and wealth of our culture, a lot of people do not know that through the Ipakodo community you can gain access junctures to other states in Nigeria".
"Also, demonstrating our heritage like the Igunnu and other masquerades which we harness is evaluated a unique form of tourist attraction which can keep the eyes of the world on what we do regularly".
High Chief Oludayo Shotomiwa further noted that 'Ebute' in Ipakodo is the 2nd community to house the Nigerian port authority in Lagos State, making the region a major player in the maritime industry. Prince Olasunkanmi Shotonwa, Chairman, Ipadoko Development Association, cited the Woro procession and festival kick-off as a huge success given the little time spent on preparing for the maiden edition of the celebration. "We have started, all we can ask now is for our stakeholders and business owners to give us support, rally around us and take advantage of our brochures for advert placements". "This is our maiden edition, so the support from our people both moral and financial is important because we know it can only get bigger from this point onwards" Prince Olasunkanmi concluded.

7887666u899oiuy4466867639359948943 After 19years of passivity, residents, stakeholders and indigenes of Ipakodo community in Ikorodu division is about to make history, steering the first-ever Ipakodo day celebrations.
A historic festival, endorsed by HRM, Oba (Engr) Bashiru Aremu Sotonwa, Osomeku 1, the Sekumade of Ipakodo, amassed huge awareness with an official press conference organised by Ipakodo development association on the 8th of September 2022.
The conference which saw the official unveiling of the accepted Logo, Ankara and lined-up procedure was graced by the king, traditional rulers, IDA Executives and youth leaders in the community.
Engaging media personnel, Prince Olasunkanmi Shotonwa, Chairman, Ipakodo development (I.D.A) explained that history is occurring in the kingdom with Ipakodo on the news for optimistic reasons.
According to Shotonwa, "The Sekumade of Ipakodo has signalled the beginning of a new era with his authorisation of Ipakodo Day celebrations for the very first time in history".
Although it's the first edition, Shotonwa clarified that organisers will leave no stone unturned in providing an outstanding event to flatter all Ipakodo indigenes and residents at home and in the diaspora.
He continued, "The maiden outing has been carefully planned to feature a mixture of socio-cultural events and activities to give everyone a sense of belonging and enhancing the effective participation of all and sundry".
Underlining activities to mark the week-long festival, Shotonwa affirmed, "Monday, 3rd October, is categorised for Woro Procession & Cultural Day, while on Tuesday, 4th October is set aside for Free Medical Outreach & Children's activities".
"Ipakodo Citizens' & Community Day is scheduled for Thursday (Oct. 6th), while our Youth activities / Mr & Miss Ipakodo Day, Music Fiesta is allotted for Friday the 7th of October".
"Lastly, Saturday, 8th October 2022 is set for our Grand Finale Reception and the Unveiling of Ipakodo Hall-of-Fame". Utilising the medium to call on corporate organisations, industries, small and medium-scale enterprises domiciled in Ipakodo Kingdom for support, Prince Shotonwa expanded that the celebration is a unique path to promote the economic growth of the community collectively.
"We count on everyone's support through kind, cash and sponsorship of any of our programmes as our platform provides a veritable opportunity to showcase goods and services to residents and visitors alike" Shotonwa concluded.
In his remarks, the Sekumade of Ipakodo, Oba Bashiru Aremu Sotonwa explained that the sincerity towards hosting a successful maiden Ipakodo Day has been illustrated in unveiling the event logo, Ankara and the line-up of activities to fulfil the festival.
Stating that no room was built in a day, the eminent leader added that organisers will leverage each drawback ascertained in the maiden edition to enhance the quality of subsequent arrangements.
Ipakodo Kingdom is an autonomous community founded by Prince Sekumade, a Prince of Akarigbo Koyelu of Remo Land. Ipakodo is also one of the foremost communities in the current Ikorodu Division. Others in attendance include, Chief Samuel Ogunlade, Chief Olu Taiwo, Chief Oloruntade Fatola (Baale of Ogolonto), Chief Adio Jaiyesimi, Chief Mushafan Idowu, Fadeyi Toheeb (Ipakodo youth leader), Sheriff Sanla, Victor Cyril, Aminat Shodipe and Olamilekan Kosoko.
