MATHEMATICS ASSOCIATION HONOURS STUDENTS, PERMANENT SECRETARY, HOLDS 25TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE, AWARDS CEREMONY ®™√ INN Nigeria©

fb img 16661532188562016917201496126153 The Mathematics Association of Nigeria (MAN) has presented an award to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr Abayomi Abolaji, for his support, exemplary leadership and for contributing to the development of the Association.
MAN also recognised 12 students who excelled in the 2022 National and Lagos State Mathematics Olympiad and Quiz Competition during its 25th Annual Conference and Awards ceremony with the theme: “Building Strategy for the Understanding of Mathematics”, held recently at the Adeyemi-Bero Auditorium Alausa, Ikeja.
In her address at the occasion, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo urged mathematics teachers to make their teachings practical-based, saying that this will further assist the students in relating to the various mathematical topics.
She encouraged the Association to have peer learning Whatsapp groups for continuous learning, coaching and exchange of concepts between the students and their teachers so that they can continue to learn from each other.
Her words: “They should teach and know how to integrate core and digital skills, creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration and practical learning”.
In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr Abolaji Abayomi congratulated the Mathematics Association of Nigeria (MAN) for carrying out various activities and programmes in Lagos State.
“Mathematics is an interesting subject that is only known to a few people. MAN is the most vibrant subject association in Lagos State going to the report about their various activities at both primary and secondary schools in the State. The association always have one programme or the other for the benefit of teachers and students of mathematics in Lagos State”, he said.
The theme of the event: “Building Strategy for the Understanding of Mathematics, according to the Permanent Secretary, is very apt because there is a need for teachers to adopt various strategies for solving various mathematics topics in their classes.
He enjoined the association to invite other executives of subjects association to their programmes to learn from each other and adopt various strategies for solving mathematics in line with the theme.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Mathematics Association of Nigeria (MAN), Lagos State Chapter, Dr Nasirudeen Ayinde Malik, appreciated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mr Abolaji Abayomi, all the six Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary; the Chairman, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) and the Executive Secretary of LASTVEB for their support towards the 58th National Conference of the Association.
He said mathematics teachers, especially at primary and secondary schools, need further understanding of how to build strategies towards making mathematics teaching pleasurable to students.
According to him, “The award of excellence to the Permanent Secretary is in recognition of his support to the growth and development of mathematics teaching and learning”.
Also, the Chairman of the Planning Committee and also the Vice Chairman, MAN, Lagos State Chapter, Mrs Odubolanle Okudipe thanked all dignitaries and members of the association for the success of the programmes and appreciated the students for their exemplary performance in both state and national competitions.
The Guest Speaker, Professor Olaoye Adetunji Abiola of the Department of Science and Technical Education, Lagos State University, outlined various strategies for the understanding of mathematics.
The high point of the occasion was the presentation of the award plaque and certificates of merit to awardees by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo.

Imota Students' Union Secondary Schools Sensitisation 2.0 Flagged off on the 19th of September 2022, with two prestigious schools in Imota LCDA; Lagos State Model College, Igbokuta and Ifelodun High School, Oke-Agbo, Imota despite the unwavering heavy downpour of the rain. The Schools' Sensitisation program which is the second phase of its kind to be organised by the students union centres on three main focuses; Academic Excellence, Effect of Peer Group and Substantial Use of Social Media.
As the program take its ride this year, it cheered the presence of guest Facilitators in the spheres of the program focus.
Mr Olumide Adeleke Shofowora the Founder, of Onward Youth Educational Symposium (OYES), enlightened the mindset of the students on the topic "Ways to Attain Academic Excellence in the 21st Century", dishing out ways students can attain academic excellence. Comr. Ogunbowale Olatayo Bodunrin, President of Imota Students Union, Undergraduate Student of the University of Lagos, spoke at length on the topic "Substantial Use of Social Media for Personal Building and Development", while on the latter, Miss Titilayo Abaniwonda educated the students on "Effect of Peer Group". In conclusion, the session was marshalled with the presence of Mr Michael Eromona, Coordinator, Ikorodu News Network (INN) who enjoined students to ensure all they have been enlightened is used for their personal growth and advancement in life.
Subsequently, the Principal and Teachers of Lagos State Model College, Igbokuta and Ifelodun High School applauded the union and facilitators for the Impacted knowledge as the program was able Moderated by Comr. Amusa Ismail Olamiji, Chairman, Planning Committee.

Sizing up 40 schools across the waterbed region in Lagos state, the group remained on course amidst the celebratory season, admonishing pupils from numerous institutions on the dangers of abusing drugs and hanging around the wrong selves.
Also known as Real youth for positive Impact, the group in its consistent mission ably led by its founder, Oshineye Abolanle Ayanfeoluwa, educated youngsters on how to take advantage of the jet age with absolute focus and dedication.
The movement against Social Vices and the impact of the digital age at the largest fun haven in Ikorodu was well-received, approved and commended by Prince Akinola Odeyemi (CEO, Ikorodu fun Park), who attributed the group to their crusade against civil crimes. Intertwined with games and other entertaining activities, the group successfully committed the pupils, directly passing their message across at intervals.
Since obtaining its approval from the Lagos State Ministry of Education, the Realers initiative has successfully carried its march across Ikorodu North LCDA down to the central axis within the space of 2 months.
Touching on both private and public schools, the group has been in collaboration with NDLEA Ikorodu Area command, thrusting its connotation around the academic division.

3738832nn7053219761528359176 Touching lives and uplifting the destinies of the next generation can be described as the objective of Realers initiatives, a group who've been educationally traversing Ikorodu division for the larger first part of 2022.
Campaigning against drug abuse and social vices, the initiative has not halted a bit in its constructive crusade of consecutive arrangements to bring out the best of future leaders from their cradle level.
United senior high school was the destination on the 25th of May 2022, after the group alighted Oriwu senior and junior model college a week prior based on the recommendation by the Lagos state ministry of Education.
Oshineye Abolanle Ayanfeoluwa (founder, Real youth for positive impact Initiative) told Ikorodu News Network (INN) that the outreach is a continuous teaching program to checkmate schools, sounding the alarm to students against every form of social vices and drug abuse.
Ayanfeoluwa, who also acquainted the students with the essence of the program exhorted them to pay close attention to every teaching session in ruling for the pupils to prosper thereafter.
Lieutenant Shokeye Michael old student of the school, assisted the student in reciting the school's National Anthem and also engaged them in not falling prey to cultism and its dubious acts.
Mike Ibikunle, a member of the Executive Board of Trustees for Real Youth for Positive Impact Initiative, took over the round in encouraging the students to spend more time studying and less time watching TV.
Mike Ibikunle continued, "you will become more of what you see, so it's best to spend more time growing yourself intellectually rather than wasting it on things that are not relevant to your future aspirations".
"Just like the saying, it is how you dress you'll be addressed", as students you must be careful of the kind of friends you keep because everyone has a different destination in life".
"A modest student is a result of personal determination and commitment, so everyone who wants to become great in life must start by taking self austere decision to stand out" Mike Ibikunle asserted
Delegates from the NDLEA was not left behind as Assistant Commander of Narcotics, Mrs Sanni Oluwaranti (ACN) in charge of Drug Demand Reduction Units of Ikorodu Area Command, urged students to avoid peer pressure, which is one of the major cause of adopting the use of drugs without a doctors prescription. Mrs Sanni strongly cautioned the pupils to avoid hanging around the school premises after school duration, she advised them to go home and spend time with their families instead of constituting nuisance thereby falling victims to cultism and drug users.
She was later assisted by Tope Ologbe (NDLEA staff) who further engaged the students on the consequences of abusing drugs.
Others in attendance include; Principal Mrs Odetola B.A, Vice Principal Academics Ajuwon O.M, Vice President Admin, Mrs Agboola, HOD Science Department and Mrs Akinwoye.

Recently receiving an acknowledgement nod from the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Real Youth For Positive Impact Initiative will further dissipate its tentacles across Ikorodu division in its ceaseless efforts to create effective awareness against social vices within the community.
The optimistic frontage faction, also known as Realers Initiative in a joy-filled statement to Ikorodu News Network (INN) on the 12th of April 2022, affirmed that it has obtained an acknowledgement letter from the Lagos State Ministry of Education to continue in its drive to sensitise young brilliant minds on staying away from negative catalysts and thus evolving a more constructive contributor to grassroots growth.
Further advancing its Ikorodu-Lagos secondary school tour with the theme 'Saying No To Social Vices', Tagged 'Digital Age: A Minacious Impact', the NGO has already alighted the interior academic domain of Ikorodu North LCDA, as well as taken its sensitisation to walk into the local council development area secretariat.
According to the convener, Mr Ayanfeoluwa Ayobami, the positive feedback from the ministry is a clue to promising and more impactful programs to come as the ambition will be putting more life-transforming programs for schools, navigating young scholars to stay focused on becoming effective future leaders.
Mr Ayobami continued, "With this acknowledgement, we're propelling another back to back school tour in Ikorodu, but this time around, we'll be changing positions from the North to Ikorodu central axis so we can be felt at the prominent part of the waterbed region of Lagos State"
"The tour will be executed in May of 2022, and our target is Oriwu Senior Model College and United Senior High School. Just like the prior, we shall be having guests speakers and also a road sensitisation walk during the program"
"Cybercrimes, rape and kidnapping are also areas we'll be looking at this time in addition to our fight against drug abuse, it is time for Ikorodu central to feel realers initiative" Mr Ayobami added
