The traffic has extended to as far as the Majidun area of the road.
Reporters on site of the incident, report that officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Agency are making frantic efforts to manage the gridlock that resulted from the incident.
Reporting the incident on its Twitter handle, LASTMA wrote, “Two containers fell off the back of a trailer on the Mile 12 bridge in Kosofe, paralysing traffic movement on the bridge.
“Vehicles are being detoured under the bridge.
“Traffic backlog at Majidun.”
The traffic management agency appealed for patience as it continued to battle the resulting gridlock.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba disclosed this while welcoming officials of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to his office at LASTMA Headquarters on Wednesday.
Mr. Oreagba explained that due to the high influx of people trooping daily into the metropolitan City of Lagos, traffic congestion has become a menace that required urgent attention, necessitating the establishment of LASTMA on the 15th of July, 2000 during the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The General Manager, who was represented by the Director of Rescue Department, Mr. Adeolu Joan added that the 22 year old Agency, in achieving its mandate, has over 4000 personnel managing the traffic across the metropolis for the desired goal of free flow of vehicular movement.
He maintained that all working ethics of the Authority including operations are being guarded and regulated by the Lagos State Traffic Sector Reform Law of 2018 as amended.
In his words, "Let me inform you that LASTMA was not established for revenue generation as being insinuated by some sections of the public. The Authority is purely saddled with the Control, Management and Regulation of Traffic related matters within Lagos metropolis".
"And we will continue to strive to achieve a Greater Lagos vision where effective and efficient traffic management will drive, improve and increase socio-economic development of Lagos", he added.
He highlighted details of the workings of the Authority including all the various departments and units that made up LASTMA.
Earlier in his address, the Head of the delegation and Secretary of the Economic, Planning Revenue Generation and Public, Private Partnership, (PPP) Honourable Agboola Lukman Dabiri, who was represented by Baba Shu'aibu Adukke, said his team was on a two-day working visit to understudy LASTMA's new and modern innovations of Road Traffic Management Control in order to improve on their services in FCT.
He commended LASTMA for its steadfastness in traffic management and control across the State.
The visiting team is scheduled to visit other LASTMA operational Centres in Lagos State.
Top officials in attendance at the meeting include all LASTMA Comptrollers, Head of Training Unit, Mr. Marcauly Modupe-Ore, Director of Operations, Mr. Peter Gbejemede, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq (Director, Public Affairs Unit LASTMA), Mr. Muazu Abdullahi (Deputy Director. Road Traffic Services FCT), Mrs. Osho Deborah (Head of Operation DRTS), Mrs. Caroline Okon (Assistant Director Revenue DRTS), Mrs. Halima Mahmud (Principal Planning Officer DRTS) and Mr. Abdulfatai Adewale (Admin. Officer I DRTS).

A release signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, said motorists can make use of Ashade Underpass, Adejobi and Toyin Crossing alternately.
The statement said the Level Crossing at Jonathan Coker will be closed off to vehicular movement during the five hours to enable the contractors to work seamlessly.
Dr Oladeinde gave assurance that the officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would manage vehicular movement along the axis, urging the motoring public to co-operate with the officers to minimise inconveniences.

888887777777E26020494712170805243. To enhance transparency in traffic management and enforcement, the Lagos State Government has deployed more body cameras to the Lagos Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) personnel.
The event which took place at the weekend during the visit of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon. Sola Giwa to the LASTMA headquarters at Oshodi, Lagos State had the LASTMA Personnel issued more body cameras with the pledge to keep them working for increased credibility and confidence in the delivery of effective traffic management and enforcement.
Explaining the reason for the redeployment of the gadgets, the Special Adviser stated that the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration has brought lots of technological innovations to address the transport challenges of the State of which the body camera was one, for accurate traffic management among many other benefits.
Expressing his optimism of the bodycam to be able to deliver authentic traffic law violation reports or complaints as the case may be, Giwa further assured that the bodycam will provide accurate validation of any tale rendered by both the Law Enforcement Officers and Motorists, adding that the pictorial evidence will also help in investigating complaints lodged by aggrieved motorists.
On the operation of the camera, the LASTMA General Manager, Mr Bolaji Oreagba assured that the LASTMA Officers have been duly trained on the usage and so are capable of handling the gadget adding that the camera would have a significant effect on deviant behaviour on the road.
He further explained that the bodycam initiative is a win-win procedure for both the Law Enforcement Officers and Motorists as the regular arguments on traffic laws violation will be put to rest through detailed recordings.
A LASTMA Officer who spoke on the condition of anonymity at the gathering informed that what thrills Officers the most about the gadget is the fact that it provides another layer of security by dissuading would-be attackers from carrying out their heinous crimes knowing they would be captured by the body cams.
It will be recalled that the Germany-made body cameras which were launched in the year 2021 by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu have been found to work effectively for 12 hours without a blink, as the battery life span is strong and durable for the use of the Law Enforcement Officers.
While lauding the LASTMA Officers for their renewed commitment to ensuring the State continues to witness tremendous improved traffic management, the Transport Special Adviser thanked the entire LASTMA workforce for the warm welcome he received at the headquarters.
