In about a month to this time, the annual week-long Community development inspired celebration otherwise tagged Ikorodu Oga Day will by God’s grace be flagged off on the 14th November 2020. This event is meant to showcase our culture, expose our commercial potentialities as well as our natural endowments which from the past 28 years has always been characterized with glitz, glamour pomp & ceremony.
However, the mood of the Nation in particular and the world generally has dictated the need to celebrate this year’s Oga Day on a very low key in obeisance to the State Government’s protocols on the raging scourge (Covid-19) which is yet to abate. In order not to expose our people to avoidable danger, the usual jamboree, daily music extravaganza and other crowd pulling events would have to be suspended till next year when hopefully, the world would have through its scientific exploration succeeded in combating the pandemic which has succeeded in re-defining our life style, socially, economically and even politically.
It is therefore pertinent to inform all lovers of this yearly event that arising from the genuine fears of the contagion, the Executive members of the Association have unanimously resolved to mark the celebration, though, on a low key with the followings:
- Commissioning of 3
boreholes with new
generators in three
schools within the
three local
government / LCDA in
Ikorodu Local Govt. - Provision of Uniforms
& bursary to indigent
pupils in primary
schools. - Public lecture on the
topic “Ikorodu-Double
Pursuit of Socio-
Economic & Political
relevance” scheduled
to hold on 21st
November, 2020.
Our Churches, Mosques & Traditional Institutions will still offer their usual prayers for the peace and progress of the Community in line with our yearly practice.
On behalf of HRM Alaiyeluwa Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobo (GCOI), the Ayangbure of Ikorodu, the Executive members of IKODASS, I want to seek the understanding of numerous people looking forward to a grandiose celebration this year to please bear with us on the complexion of this year’s event.
