Ibile-Eko Forum, the socio-political movement of all the indigenous people of Lagos State once again join our voices with that of all responsible and responsive” youths across the country in the demands for the total reformation of the Nigeria Police and call for good governance.
In solidarity with the protesters we call on both the
federal and states governments to as a matter of necessity and urgency attend to the genuine demands for a better nation by embarking on immediate reformation of our security outfits and embarking on provision of genuine dividends of democracy.
The noble movement speaking through the Grand Patron, Mr. Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran and the Principal Coordinator, Mr. Bode Makinde condemns the attacks on the peaceful protesters at Lekki Tollgate and other parts of the state.
The movement considers as barbaric and sheer wickedness, the use of live bullets on our unarmed youths who were peaceful in their demands and protest leaving scores dead and injured. Our hearts bleeds and the movement is in deep sorrow for the lives lost and the irreparable damages done to our future. It is our conclusion that the attacks would not have been ordered by any responsible parent on his or her own children.
The movement in observing the unfolding ugly events with respect to the continuous killing of our youths, destructions and burning of government establishments in Lagos State, it is our conclusion that two wrongs can never in anyway make a right, hence we call on our people to calm down and desist from the destruction of the state owned facilities, corporate and personal properties.
The last 24 hours has witnessed attacks and burning of public facilities in different locations in Lagos State. The movement frown at such acts and appeal to all the people involved to put an end to these acts considering the economic resultant effects on the state. The state which has been left in a mess in the last two decades owing to its lack of the required social amenities and infrastructures cannot afford to witness the destructions of the few and lean available ones; please let stop the destruction, knowing that no public officer’s money will be used to fix the infrastructures but our state generated revenues from our natural resources and taxes.
In addressing the situation and to avoid it degenerating further, we call on President Muhammadu Buhari to address the nation on thedemands of our youths with the assurance to urgently take steps to redress the actions complained about and to also provide the necessary succor and compensation to the family of the fallen heroes of the SARS Brutalities and #EndSARS Protest. We urge the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu as the Chief Security Officer of the state to take responsibilities for the fallout of the ugly incidents and as the occasion demands prove leadership to us at this most critical and trying period in the history of our dear state.
The days of excuses and dodging responsibilities should be over. The Governor should arrest the situation and ensure the safety of our youths and all public facilities and infrastructures in the state. We appeal to all persons who are angry to calm down and put a stop to the destruction of the state properties. We urge all in the state most especially our youths to henceforth serve as security provider for all the state-owned facilities and ensure their safety because the properties belong to all of us.
WE FINALLY SALUTE THE COURAGE AND DOGGEDNESS OF OUR YOUTHS WHO ST0OD THEIR GROUNDS EVEN IN THE FACE OF THE ATTACKS AND KILLING.
May the efforts of the protesting youths never be in vain and may the souls of our fallen heroes and heroines rest in perfect peace.
