Skills Development for Youth Employment (SKYE) is a programme implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft for Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Nigeria with the aim to Promoting Needs-based Technical and Vocational Education and Training, and Youth Employment in Nigeria
Commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), SKYE strives to achieve its goal by improving the opportunities for income-generating employment of Nigerian young people and young adults, including returnees
SKYE is currently working on various activities that support the effective implementation of active labour market measures in Lagos state, one of such activities is the training of guidance and counsellors in the five job centres of Min. Of Wealth Creation And Employment, and counsellors from the Fed. Min. of Labour and Employment jobcentre to become career guidance counsellors
To decentralize the services of the trained career guidance and counsellors to serve more people across all communities in Lagos state, SKYE trains Career Officers (CO’s) who will be linked to the job centres in Eti Osa, Epe, Lagos Island, Ikorodu, Oshodi, Ojo and Ikoyi
It is expected that the trained COO’s will facilitate the effective flow of labour market information (availability of job vacancies, free training, paid internships, and state loan programme) to young Lagosians seeking to gain entrance into the labour market
The target trainees for Career Officers are men and women working closely with the youths as mentors and counsellors in the various faith-based organisations, LGAs, Youth based organisations and CSOs.
