The General Hospital, Ijede, recently held its monthly Continuous Medical Education (CME) for members of staff as part of efforts to improve their knowledge and enhance service delivery at the facility.

Speaking on the vital role of the Human Resources and Administration Department, especially in the health sector, the Principal Administrator at the facility, Mr Oluwaseun Odusanya, described the department as the engine room and integral part of the hospital, adding that it is responsible for the smooth running of the organisation’s activities and programmes.

According to him, other functions of the department include motivating staff, facilitating the decision-making process, management of resources, negotiations, hiring, training and evaluation of Human Resources (HR), among others.

Odusanya further revealed that administrators are responsible for organising and overseeing all health services and daily activities of the hospital, noting that they also manage staff and budget, communicate between departments and ensure that patients are adequately cared for.

He maintained that the department is also responsible for coordinating the medical team, non-medical and other members of staff to ensure that quality service is rendered to the patients.

While informing that the administrators’ responsibility is to plan, organise, staff, direct, control and coordinate services in line with the government’s organisational policies and regulations, Odusanya added that they oversee the development and implementation of programmes and policies for patient services, evaluate personnel, prepare memos and correspondences among others.

He, however, urged members of staff to continually seek the counsel of the administration department as it relates to their career, duties and responsibilities to avoid erring in the course of their official duties, noting that the admin department can also serve as an advisor to employees.
