As part of efforts aimed at improving educational standards, Government College Ikorodu Old Students Association, Class of 1992, returned the favour to their alma mater on the 22nd of October 2022.
Marking its 30th anniversary, the old students, ably led by the project committee chairman, Engr. Olusegun Idowu Paul graced the school with their unique apparel.
In feat, the established alumni provided the college with 4 water tanks to enhance supply, an Electric grinding machine and a generator for power purposes.
Speaking to Ikorodu News Network (INN), post-presentation, Engr. Olusegun Idowu expressed that having obtained qualitative education from the school, it is vital to recognise their secondary college and give back.
He continued, “This program is about celebrating our 30th anniversary after graduating from the school, it also makes twice as much as a continuation to our previous project when we commemorated our 25th anniversary”.
“Before executing this project, we came around to carry out a need assessment in the school, to ascertain areas where the students need adequate support. We found out that water is required.”
Engr. Paul pointed out that they also went to the student’s kitchen and noticed they craved a grinding machine.
“At this point, we’ve provided 4 water tanks with stanchion steel (for both boys and girls hostel) and a grinding machine for the school (as phase 1&2 of the project), the provision of a generator is the 3rd phase of the project, which we’re going to do subsequently”. He concluded
Receiving the members, Mrs Modupe Adefolarin, Principal, of Government Senior Model College Owutu, Ikorodu, praised the old students for giving back to their institutional source, urging them to keep up the spirit of generosity.
She remarked, “The class of 92 set old students association of Government college Ikorodu has done marvellously well with this project implementation”.
“Providing 4 water tanks for the boy’s and girls’ hostel, and also an electric grinding machine is a huge relief for the school administration and a tremendous aid to the students”.
“It is not everyone that leaves would remember to return the favour. For recalling their alma Mater, I pray that their purse will never go dry for chosen to support this school”. Mrs Modupe asserted
Other members in attendance at the project commissioning include; Dayo Bobola, Risqat Kamson, Said Odunlami, Ogunfile oyindamola, Idowu Animashaun, Dele Onafowokan, Joseph Omolokun, Mujidat Yekinni, Bolanle Afuwape, Rebecca Akinyemi, Kafilat Sule, Kazeem Waidi, Femi Williams, Kemi Ladega, Musa Lambo and Esther Ifanayajo.
