The vibrant community of Ipakodo in Ikorodu came alive on the 2nd of October 2023, as it kicked off the much-anticipated 2023 Ipakodo Day celebration.
This year’s festivities hold a dual significance as it coincides with the 5th coronation anniversary of the revered Sekumade of Ipakodo, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Oba Aremu Shotonwa.
The celebration began in earnest with a spectacular woro procession, which saw the active participation of the youth and residents.
The procession wound its way through the major thoroughfares of Ipakodo, filling the air with the rhythms of traditional songs and the vibrant colours of cultural attire.
It was a heartwarming sight as the entire community joined in, reflecting the unity and pride of Ipakodo.
The grand procession culminated at the majestic palace, where different factions paid homage to the beloved Oba of Ipakodo.
HRM Oba Aremu Shotonwa, resplendent in his regal attire, graciously received the well-wishers and expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support and participation of the community in making the start of the celebration truly memorable.
In his address to the gathered crowd, Oba Bashiru Aremu Shotonwa announced plans for a significant development in Ipakodo.
He also revealed to Ikorodu News Network (INN) that the occasion of his 5th coronation anniversary, which aligns with Ipakodo Day celebrations, would mark the inception of a pavilion construction project.
“This pavilion would serve as a central hub for community gatherings, and cultural events, and a symbol of unity for the Ipakodo people” Oba Shotonwa asserted.
The Sekumade of Ipakodo concluded his remarks by calling on all residents to maintain the same spirit of unity and cooperation throughout the celebration, leading up to the grand finale day.
He emphasized the importance of preserving the rich cultural heritage of Ipakodo and strengthening the bonds that bind the community together.
As the celebration continues, Ipakodo residents and well-wishers eagerly anticipate a series of cultural displays, traditional performances, youth carnival, sports and educational programs that will take place over the coming days.
The 2023 Ipakodo Day celebration promises to be an unforgettable event, reaffirming the sense of community and pride that defines this vibrant kingdom in Ikorodu.
The Olisa of Ipakodo, High Chief Oludayo Shotomiwa, members of the Erelu and executive members of Ipakodo development association, headed by the joint planning committee chairman, Dr Bolaji Adeniji, former Ikorodu West LCDA chairman, Princess Ganiyat Olajumoke Jimbo Ademehin, among others, joined the grand opening occasion.
