Geared towards addressing traffic congestion and enhancing transportation infrastructure, Hon. Wasiu Adesina, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu local government, led a delegation to inspect the proposed site for the new Ikorodu Local Government Central Motor Park on January 19, 2024.

Accompanied by his council-manager, Engr Martins Odupitan, the secretary to the local government, Alhaji Lateef Afini, and other key management staff, Hon. Wasiu Adesina spoke with Ikorodu News Network (INN) about the initiative.

The proposed site (located between the ever-busy Ikorodu garage and Sabo Market), spanning approximately 7 hectares, was examined during the visit.

Adesina emphasized that the local government’s objective is to decongest the heavy traffic log at the central moving point of Ikorodu garage.

Speaking to INN, he explained, “The process to acquire the land space has begun. Since the local government has come, it means the process has started.”

Highlighting the collaborative nature of the project, Adesina announced plans to schedule another visit for partners to inspect the site firsthand.

This step aims to provide stakeholders with a comprehensive understanding before moving forward with negotiations involving the family that owns the land.

“We’re going to set another date for our partners to also inspect this site and see for themselves before we move further towards bringing the family involved to the roundtable for us to do negotiations to acquire it,” Adesina stated.

The chairman also revealed broader aspirations for the project, indicating intentions to engage with both the state and federal governments.

Seeking their involvement, he expressed, “We also have plans to meet with the state government and federal government for them to be involved in making this unique project a reality for the greater interest of Ikorodu.”

The proposed central motor park, once established, holds the promise of alleviating traffic challenges and improving the overall transportation experience for commuters and road users in Ikorodu.

“As plans progress, the local government remains committed to effective collaboration and negotiations to bring this transformative project to fruition” Adesina added.
