Fostering self-reliance and sustainability among youths, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, announced the launch of the Centre for Rural Development’s (CERUD) 2024 fish training program.
The event took place at the Ikorodu local government secretariat on January 25, 2024.
During the program, Dr. Agbaje emphasized that the training initiative aims to place farmers on a robust and productive path for the year ahead.
He highlighted key advantages for participants, including skill enhancement, access to government support, and the potential for increased productivity and income.
Addressing the farmers, Dr Agbaje emphasized the significance of skill enhancement, stating that CERUD’s training equips farmers with essential skills in fish and poultry rearing.
This, in turn, deepens their understanding of best practices, empowering them to enhance production efficiency and overall farm management.
One notable aspect of the program is its direct link to government support systems.
Dr. Agbaje pointed out that participation in the training establishes a connection for farmers to various agricultural assistance programs, subsidies, and empowerment initiatives aimed at bolstering the rural economy.
The training’s impact on productivity and income was also highlighted.
As farmers implement the learned techniques, they are expected to optimize their farming processes, leading to increased profitability.
This, in turn, contributes to the overall growth and sustainability of the agricultural sector in Lagos State.
The program featured practical sessions where farmers engaged in hands-on learning of value addition and production techniques.
This approach aims to provide participants with practical insights, ensuring they are well-equipped to implement learned strategies on their farms.
“As Lagos State continues to focus on empowering its rural communities, the 2024 fish training program stands as a pivotal initiative in building a self-sufficient and economically viable agricultural sector” Dr Agbaje told Ikorodu News Network (INN).
