Cracking Down on cybercrimes, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended 45 individuals suspected of involvement in internet fraud.
The arrests were made by operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command, in collaboration with intelligence agencies, on Monday, March 11, 2024, in Ikorodu, Lagos.
The suspects were nabbed following extensive intelligence gathering on the activities of an Organised Cybercrime Syndicate Network (OCSN) operating within the state.
The EFCC’s swift action aimed to disrupt and dismantle the criminal network responsible for various online fraud schemes.
Upon their arrest, law enforcement officials recovered a cache of incriminating evidence, including exotic vehicles, sophisticated mobile devices, and laptops believed to have been used in perpetrating fraudulent activities.
This seizure underscores the scale and sophistication of the operation carried out by the alleged cybercriminals.
According to EFCC sources, the apprehended individuals will undergo thorough interrogation and investigation to uncover the full extent of their involvement in cybercrime activities.
Once investigations are concluded, the suspects will be arraigned before the appropriate judicial authorities to face prosecution for their alleged offenses.
The EFCC has reiterated its commitment to combatting cybercrime and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.
The agency has called on members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious online activities to law enforcement authorities promptly.
The arrests in Lagos serve as a stern warning to cybercriminals that their illegal activities will not go unpunished.
With the cooperation of law-abiding citizens and the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies, the EFCC remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s digital ecosystem and protect citizens from the scourge of cybercrime.
