Displaying compassion and solidarity, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, marking his 60th birthday today, Monday, March 25, 2024, has chosen to forego traditional celebrations and instead extend support to vulnerable members of his Lagos East Senatorial District who are facing economic hardship.
Senator Abiru, known for his consistent efforts in aiding the needy, has scaled up his assistance by distributing over 10,000 food packs to vulnerable households across the 98 wards within the 16 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) and Local Government Areas in Lagos East.
In a heartfelt birthday message addressed to the residents of Lagos East, Senator Abiru expressed gratitude to the Almighty for his blessings and singled out his wife, Fesyisola, and his children for their unwavering support.
He also conveyed his appreciation to the people of Lagos East for entrusting him with the opportunity to serve, and credited the leaders of his party, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for their guidance throughout his political journey.
Reflecting on the economic challenges faced by his constituents, Senator Abiru emphasized the importance of prioritizing their needs over personal festivities.
He remarked, “It would be insensitive of me to host lavish celebrations while many in our community struggle to meet their basic needs, especially food.”
Hence, he opted to celebrate his milestone birthday by providing essential sustenance to those in need.
Continuing his longstanding commitment to assisting the vulnerable, Senator Abiru ensured inclusivity in the distribution process by targeting widows, persons with disabilities, unemployed youths, women, and the elderly.
Additionally, vulnerable individuals nominated online were also included to broaden the reach of aid.
Despite the current hardships, Senator Abiru remains optimistic about the future, citing government initiatives aimed at addressing food security and stabilizing commodity prices.
He reaffirmed his unwavering dedication to fulfilling his mandate, focusing on legislative duties and empowering his constituents through various programs and initiatives.
It is worth noting that Senator Abiru’s recent humanitarian gesture builds upon his prior efforts, including the disbursement of over N150 million through the COVID-19 Financial Relief Scheme.
This initiative provided vital financial assistance to over 2,500 vulnerable individuals, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to serving the community during times of crisis.
As Senator Abiru celebrates his milestone birthday, his actions exemplify a profound dedication to the welfare and well-being of his constituents, setting a commendable standard for public service and leadership in challenging times.
