img 20221208 wa00017241587120880206490 The Chairman, Senate Committee on Industries and the Senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Distinguished Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to Honourable Minister of Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN at his office in Mabushi, Abuja to show appreciation for his efforts on two critical Federal roads : Ikorodu- Itoikin Road and Ikorodu/ Sagamu Road.
During the courtesy call, the #DoingGood Senator extended the gratitude of Constituents of the Lagos East Senatorial District to the minister for his support and efforts on the planned rehabilitation of 32-Km Ikorodu-Itoikin Road and the accelerated work on Ikorodu-Sagamu Road, which is almost completed.
The Honourable Minister specifically informed the Senator that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) had approved complete rehabilitation of the Ikorodu-Itoikin Road. Fashola assured Senator Abiru that the total rehabilitation of the road will commence in January, 2023. Meanwhile, critical sections of the 30-Km Ikorodu/Sagamu road, from; Sabo,Okegbegun, First Gate, Odogunyan, Ita-Oluwo, Ogijo, Gbaga, Sotubo, Mosimmi to Gbara Village have been fixed, remaining less than 8 Kilometre to get to Sagamu. The Honourable Minister assured Senator Abiru that the road would be completed before the end of President Muhammadu Buhari administration. These milestones were made possible through the instrumentality of legislative intervention via a motion moved by Senator Abiru, “On The Urgent Need For The Rehabilitation Of The Ikorodu-Sagamu And Ikorodu-Itoikin- Epe Roads To Further Bridge The Infrastructure Gap And Enhance Economic Growth In Nigeria” in April 2021. Senator Abiru convinced the Senate by highlighting the importance of the two roads to the nation’s economic growth as they serve as access points from other parts of the country: Ogun, Edo and the Northern parts of the country and also routes to New Lekki- Ibeju corridor where we have a major refinery, Lagos Deep Seaport and Free Trade Zone etc.
The motion was fully supported and approved by the Nigerian Senate, and thereafter obtained the cooperation and support of the Ministry of Works and Housing, particularly, the Honourable minister, His Excellency, Mr Babatunde Fashola, SAN. Before Senator Abiru’s intervention, Ikorodu- Sagamu road, which was awarded on 5th June, 2018 to Messrs Arab Contractors O.A.O. Nigeria Limited , with a completion period of 36 months only attained 24.04% completion due to paucity of funding. However, the current intervention by the Senator, has ensured the advancement of the 30-km Road to about 85% completion.

APC FLAGS-OFF GOVERNORSHIP CAMPAIGN IN LAGOS, SANWO-OLU PRESENTS SCORECARD AT RE-ELECTION RALLY ®™√ INN Nigeria ©

3938j3n3n1055986741602851798 A mammoth crowd of Lagos State residents, on Saturday, converged on Onikan – a cultured neighbourhood in the heart of Lagos Island – for an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally. Clad in branded yellow shirts and Ankara brocade, the crowd dominated the city centre with pockets of political carnival. Thousands of ordinary citizens and party stalwarts trooped to Mobolaji Johnson Pavilion, the venue of the inaugural rally flagging off the party’s governorship campaign in Lagos. The 10,000-capacity stadium brimmed with APC supporters. They carried banners and chanted slogans to receive the party chieftains and members of the Governorship Campaign Council. APC standard bearer, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, made a grand entry into the venue, animating the crowd, which chorused: “Greater Lagos Rising” – the Governor’s re-election campaign slogan. Reacting to the massive turnout, Sanwo-Olu said the vast attendance further confirmed the strength of APC as the only party of choice in Lagos. The Governor mounted the rostrum to seek the mandate of Lagosians for another term in office, saying the “Greater Lagos” he promised at the inception of his government could now be visualised, given the achievements recorded during his first term. Sanwo-Olu said the last three and half years had been challenging for his administration, pointing out that his Government traversed difficult terrains to deliver on its development objectives. He said: “It has been an interesting and challenging journey for us in the last three and half years. Our administration has traversed difficult terrains and witnessed major disruption occasioned by global pandemic. Lagos had its fair share in the attendant socio-economic meltdown, but we provided strong leadership that protected the people and made the State come out better and stronger. “Now, we can say ‘Greater Lagos Rising’ because our State is rising on all of our modest achievements through the THEMES agenda. In Transportation and Traffic Management, Lagosians are now living with the reality of the delivery of two intracity Rail Mass Transit projects that are on the verge of completion. These projects will be handed over in the coming weeks. “We have also scaled up infrastructure in public transportation services by improving BRT services, injecting new taxi scheme and energizing traffic management agency for efficiency. People have seen the construction and commission of Lekki Deep Seaport, and massive road construction projects in the Eti Osa and Epe corridors. We have delivered and are still constructing more new roads in Ikorodu, Victoria Island, Ikoyi, Alimosho, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Somolu and other areas.” Sanwo-Olu said activities of his administration, since inception, had been about purposeful governance. He added that his Government had delivered new hospitals in Badagry, Epe, and Eti-Osa, pointing out that construction of new hospitals were currently being undertaken in Ikorodu, Ojo and Lagos Island. In the environment, the Governor said the State was currently constructing 210 new drainage channels to address the issue of flooding in vulnerable communities. He said his Government had also raised the level of infrastructure in emergency response agencies, mentioning the recently completed four fire stations, recruitment of new fire fighters and provision of fire fighting equipment. The Governor said: “Lagosians can testify to our feats in education. Over 1,000 new classrooms have been added to public schools and we completed over 1,097 projects in schools. We trained our teachers in modern teaching techniques through Eko EXCEL and handed over tablets to them for teaching. Overall performance of Lagos students in WAEC has improved from 42 per cent to over 83 per cent.” Sanwo-Olu said there had been laudable progress recorded across his Government’s development blueprint, noting that the State had become a model for good governance and development. The Governor thanked residents for standing by his administration, pledging that he would not take their support for granted. He urged party members to take back the Government’s achievements back to their communities and engage in door-to-door campaign to ensure APC candidates are elected in the general elections. Director General of Lagos APC Campaign Council, Sen. Ganiyu Solomon, said the party would have no problem taking its campaign to the electorate, given the “exceptional” performance of the party’s governorship candidate. Solomon said the second coming of Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat would bring the State to new heights of development and prosperity. Leader of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Prince Tajudeen Olusi, said: “The combination of Sanwo-Olu and Hamzat are the best a democratic society can get in delivering results of good governance. Anyone who wants the development of Lagos to continue, Sanwo-Olu must be allowed to continue the good work he started.” Sanwo-Olu, assisted by APC chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi, presented flags to party candidates running for legislative seats in the House of Assembly and National Assembly.

Kabir Adewale Shotobi, on the 12th of October 2022, the business community Breakfast with Ayangburen played host to community stakeholders, business owners and consultants, bridging the gap between factors that declines the progress of fruitful enterprises and key steps to growing brands in the waterbed region.
Comprehending that the prosperity of each business is the prosperity of Ikorodu, the impactful session was presided over by the king himself who encouraged all businesses represented in Ikorodu not to be far from the palace. In an address by the chairman of Ikorodu Oga Development Association (IKODASS), Mr Rotimi Erogbogbo, IKODASS erected the forum as direct feedback means for community leadership with plans to achieve better responsiveness to ease of doing business in Ikorodu. Erogbogbo explained, "Each time you are here, we're expecting an accurate reply as per the challenges and obstacles hindering your business operation so that Ikorodu can serve you better". "Any difficulty we cannot handle shall be channelled to appropriate councils for their attention. One thing you can be sure of is that we would take it up". Erogbogbo further stated that the growth experienced in Ikorodu is food for businesses, assuring principals that the association will not fold its arms and let challenges fester. "We will not allow your business to be endangered in any way. Some of the headway we've made so far has been summarised in the communique placed in your gift bags" Erogbogbo added.
Chairman of the symposium, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, ably represented by his special adviser on media & publicity, Mr Enitan Olukotun, reminded participants about the senator's promise to institute a revolving loan scheme to help MSMEs in his constituency access funds for business, a promise he has fulfilled.
He explained how the senator embarked on a Legislation of creativity, introducing the franchise regulatory bill in the corporate environment to foster business growth.
Stressing that the constituency office of the senator has been extensively used to serve the good people of the Ikorodu division.
Mr Enitan continued, "It is no more a plan. It is now a reality because our distinguished Senator has mobilized 300 million naira for the scheme". "Small business owners can easily access between 50,000 to 1 Million naira loan at just 6% per annum". Enitan further expanded that the LSETF Liaison Office at Ikorodu Local Government Secretariat is where to access the loan.
"The Senator is passionate about the assignment given to him by the good people in Lagos East. Anyone that comes to him to initiate a business idea that will elevate the region, Tokunbo Abiru is always ready to listen and try it out".
After the speech by Mr Enitan, IKODASS Chairman, Rotimi Erogbogbo applauded Senator Tokunbo Abiru for institutionally tackling issues rather than embarking on political tokenism and grandstanding. Erogbogbo, subsequently brought participants up to speed with the upcoming edition of the Ikorodu Oga day celebration in 2022.
He proceeded, "Next month marks the biggest month in Ikorodu history. For the past 31 years November has become synonymous with Ikorodu". "This is so because it is in November that we celebrate Oga Day Festival every year. This edition holds larger promise and another opportunity as it is bigger and more inclusive. We are preparing to host well more than the 9000 people who visited the festival last year".
"The festival consists of several expressions that would afford business owners deeper penetration into the Ikorodu market. This includes Walk for Fitness, Say No To Drugs; Table Tennis Tournament; Market Expo; Woro; Music Concert; Hair and Fashion Show; Miss Ikorodu Beauty Pageant; Medical Mission; and so much more".
"As business people, you know, more than anyone else, that once people gather, there is money to be made. Do not be left out. Stands for Ikorodu Market Expo which runs for the duration of the festival are already on sale, plus space in the festival brochure for adverts and congratulatory messages" Erogbogbo asserted
Guest Speaker, and United Nations Ambassador, Prof. Adetunji Armstrong, highlighted the challenges of doing business in urban cities with Ikorodu as a case study.
Labelling Ikorodu as the next Dubai of Africa, Prof. Adetunji categorised Ikorodu as a province that possesses a strong leadership structure and the goodwill of the people.
Prof. Adetunji progressed, "With LASUSTECH, Caleb University, Ikorodu General Hospital, Ikorodu Maritime Port, Egbin Power plant and the coming of Imota rice mill which is considered the largest in Africa, Ikorodu is slowly becoming the juggernaut in infrastructure in the whole of Nigeria".
"Ikorodu has met with major rudimentary steps to make a region great in development. What is needed now is more power supply across the division, fly-over bridges to create an easy road network in and out of the region and more fire service centres plus health centres".
He augmented that the popular Ikorodu roundabout is sanitised to reduce the congestion of people hanging around the space, further giving kudos to Senator Tokunbo Abiru and Hon Babajimi Benson (MHR) for the construction of the road.
Complimenting the speech of the guest speaker, Majority Leader of the Lagos state house of Assembly, representing Ikorodu constituency 1, Hon. SOB Agunbiade, before moderating the question and answer session of the meeting applauded Rotimi Erogbogbo, referring him to as a human engineer due to his intellectual tendencies of bridging the gap between human reserves and material resources.
Agunbiade also expressed his sense of vindication with the news that Ikorodu had been declared the 3rd largest city in the southwest, which validated his fight against merging Ikorodu with Somolu and Kosofe.
On security, Agunbiade explained that despite measures put in place to combat insecurities in Ikorodu, a large number of people relocating to Ikorodu has made it uneasy for people to observe the level of security upgrade the region has provided.
Urging business owners to collaborate with IKODASS's business initiative known as the market expo, to create effective synergy, Agunbiade noted that on security challenges, he will initiate a discussion with the Odofin of Ikorodu on the masterplan of the land, to enhance the security approach as the region continues to grow.
Otunba Ayodele Elesho briefly requested Rotimi Erogbogbo to create a sub-committee on ensuring that every contribution made by business owners is noted and acted upon to further effect positive change in the business sector of the region.
Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu kingdom in his parting remarks stated that Ikorodu is about inclusiveness, urging all quotas to continue to work together to take Ikorodu to the next level.
"We're gradually working towards a security status that gives people the freedom to move freely at night because people are still afraid in areas of security". "Every question raised by business owners will be noted by IKODASS and enforced immediately. A megacity status requires a high level of security, we're getting there gradually".
Oba Shotobi added that he sees a time coming for Ikorodu to host the International Olympic Games.
Guests at the breakfast include; business owners, representatives from Caleb university, representatives from the Nigerian Bar Association (Ikorodu Branch), delegates from Ikorodu local government council etc.

Breakfast with The Ayangburen is an engaging symposium aimed at identifying challenges to doing business in Ikorodu. With the widespread growth experienced in Ikorodu presently, begets new challenges, while still trying to eradicate the old ones, it’s just the dynamics of life.
