
Bldr Sesan Daini, the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), has lauded the kick-off of the Chairman’s Cup soccer competition on Wednesday, May 1st 2024 at Eleja Primary School in Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA.
According to Daini, the tournament has over time proven to be an effective tool in achieving its objectives, surpassing expectations in bringing together diverse segments of the community.
Bldr Daini, speaking to Ikorodu News Network (INN) during the halftime of the first official game between Oba Adeboruwa Estate Team and Adegbose FC, explained the transformative power of sports, noting that the Chairman’s Cup has played a pivotal role in bridging divides among community members who previously had minimal interaction.
“We have used the game to unite people who never thought they could talk together,” Daini stated, highlighting the profound impact of the tournament on fostering social cohesion.
Moreover, the Chairman’s Cup has served as a platform for conflict resolution, providing a peaceful avenue for addressing grievances and promoting harmony within the community.
Bldr Daini highlighted the tournament’s role in reorganizing unorganized associations and facilitating constructive dialogue among residents.
Beyond its social benefits, the Chairman’s Cup is also instrumental in disseminating information and enhancing communication between the government and citizens.
Daini stated that the tournament effectively captures the attention of the populace, enabling authorities to convey important messages and initiatives that might otherwise go unnoticed.
When questioned about the reception of the event by youths in the community, Daini expressed satisfaction with the overwhelming turnout witnessed during the commencement ceremony of the competition.
He attributed the enthusiastic participation of youths to the significant level of engagement the tournament has generated, reflecting the community’s embrace of the Chairman’s Cup as a catalyst for positive change.
“As we begin this spectacular event, it must be noted that the success of the Chairman’s Cup serves as a proof of the potential of sports in fostering social cohesion, resolving conflicts, and promoting community development”.
“I believe that the tournament will continue to gain momentum as regards its impact on the fabric of the Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA” Daini asserted.
The competition which consists of 24 teams will run for the entire month of May before its Finals where participating teams will be empowered by the council.
