
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State chapter, spearheaded by the Local Government Area (LGA) Party Chairmen, convened an essential quarterly meeting aimed at fortifying strategies for upcoming elections across the state.
This second edition of the high-profile gathering took place on Wednesday, 17th July 2024, at Ikorodu APC Secretariat on Oke-Ota Ona, Ikorodu, Lagos.
The strategic conference saw in attendance Mayegun Dally-Adeokun; Alhaji Muniru K. Okoroowo; Muftau Mohammed; Gafar Meyon; Chief Rasheed Shobaloju; Alhaji Tunde Azeez; Adeyemi Odekomaya; Taiwo Orenuga; Otunba Bayo Lawson; Alhaja Morufat Memud; Taiwo Adeleye; Akibu Saliu; Aduni Opeyemi Akindele; Akin Mejolagbe and Ayo Ogungbiye.
Otunba Olasunkanmi Tijani Jimoh, representing the six LGA APC party chairmen in Ikorodu, warmly welcomed the leaders.
He conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the chair of chairs for his exemplary coordination and presence, despite health challenges, and wished him a speedy recovery.
Otunba Olasunkanmi, who serves as the Ikorodu North LGA Party Chairman and the Ikorodu division’s party Chair of Chairs, underscored the importance of these meetings in facilitating idea exchange and addressing challenges affecting their LGAs and the state at large.
He also acknowledged the support from notable political figures, including Lagos East’s Senator Mukhail Abiru, Rep. Babajimi Benson MHR, Abisola Olusanya, Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, and Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, among others.
Otunba Olasunkanmi specifically praised the contributions of Ikorodu’s Lagos State House of Assembly members, Hon. Gbolahan Ogunleye and Hon. Moshood Abiodun Aro, as well as the council chairmen: Hon. Wasiu Adesina of Ikorodu Local Government, Bldr. Adebisi Banjo of Ikorodu North LCDA, Mr. Kazeem Sulaimon Olarewaju of Ikorodu West LCDA, Prince Wasiu Agoro of Imota LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba of Ijede LCDA, and Bldr. Sesan Daini of Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA.
The meeting detailed the responsiveness and dedication of Ikorodu division’s officeholders.
He noted their efforts in ensuring the meeting’s success and addressing the provision of official vehicles for the LGA chairmen.
As the meeting progressed, it leaders delved into various topics at the state level, including individual and collective challenges, welfare matters, and innovative ideas to fortify the ruling party.
A key focus was the importance of unity and actively engaging the youth constituency, which is recognized as the future of the party.
In his remarks, Hon. Mayegun Dally-Adeokun, the APC Chairman of all LGA Party Chairmen in Lagos State, expressed confidence in Ikorodu LGA, describing it as, “Ikorodu Oga, leading the way in planning, execution, and delivery. I am proud of you, Ikorodu LGA; thank you for the hospitality.”
Hon. Mayegun also lauded the contributions of public officeholders to the program and their support for the party at both local and state levels.
He stressed the importance of unity among LGA Chairmen and called for collective efforts to strengthen the party’s position as the ruling party.
In a post-meeting interview, Hon. Mayegun emphasized that the meeting served as a platform to brainstorm new directions for future electoral victories.
He urged early preparations to avoid past electoral shortcomings and to ensure the APC’s dominance at the grassroots level.
Alhaja Aminat Akerele, former chair of Chairs Conference 57 APC, mentioned that the meeting brings together leaders to identify and address issues in each local government.
She noted that the body consistently strives to close the gaps between the leaders and the local governments they serve.
“The efforts of the party chairmen, officeholders, and all members are set to propel the APC to new heights in Lagos State politics,” Alhaja Aminat said.
Otunba Olasunkanmi, in the interview, later acknowledged the progress made and the signs indicating that Ikorodu is on the right path to achieving greater success along with the other 56 LGAs in Lagos state.
Subsequently, Olasunkanmi thanked the leadership for their active participation, indicating the fruitful deliberations.
