Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Rural Development, has announced the successful completion of a comprehensive one-month training program aimed at equipping youths with advanced skills in agricultural entrepreneurship.
According to Dr. Agbaje in his statement on the 7th of August 2024, this initiative is part of the state government’s broader effort to tackle the challenge of an aging farming population by introducing young, skilled individuals to modern agricultural techniques.
“Governor Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing food security across Lagos State,” Dr. Agbaje said.
“His administration’s focus is on boosting food production and fostering sustainable livelihoods, which are crucial for the state’s long-term development.”
“The agricultural training program is a significant part of this strategy. It is designed to replace the ageing workforce with a new generation of farmers adept in contemporary farming methods,” he added.
The initiative aligns with the governor’s broader goals of increasing food production and ensuring economic sustainability within the community.
In addition to the agricultural training, similar programs are being implemented across several departments, including the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, the Office of Rural Development, WAPA, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
These efforts aim to provide a comprehensive support system for youth development and empowerment.
Dr. Agbaje encouraged all youths to actively participate in these programs, emphasizing that these opportunities are crucial for personal growth and future career prospects.
He also highlighted the role of federal government student loans in job creation, underscoring the importance of financial support in enhancing employment opportunities.
“This comprehensive approach demonstrates the Lagos State Government’s dedication to modernizing agriculture and supporting its youth, thereby contributing to the overall economic and social development of the state,” Dr. Agbaje concluded.
