The newly commissioned legislative chamber in Igbogbo-Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), named in honor of the Ikorodu apex leader and member of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Asiwaju Reuben Olorunfunmi Basorun, has been described as a fitting tribute to a man who has made significant contributions to governance and leadership in Lagos State.
This was stated by Rep. Babajimi Benson, Member of the House of Representatives (MHR) for Ikorodu Federal Constituency, during the commissioning ceremony on September 16, 2024.
Rep. Benson commended the Executive Chairman of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Bldr Sesan Daini, for this remarkable honour, acknowledging the vital role Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun has played not only in Igbogbo-Baiyeku but across Lagos State.
He described the decision to name the legislative chamber after Basorun as an act of respect for a mentor who has been instrumental in Bldr Daini’s political journey and has contributed immensely to the development of the region.
“It is befitting for Bldr Sesan Daini to name this legislative chamber after his mentor, Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun,” Rep. Benson remarked, noting that Basorun’s legacy, as the first Secretary to the Lagos State Government, has had a lasting impact on governance in Lagos.
“This is the best honour for such a landmark project, and it reflects the enduring influence of Baba Basorun on leadership and governance in our region.”
Rep. Benson also congratulated both the Executive Chairman and Asiwaju Basorun, stating, “I must congratulate the chairman once again for this brand-new edifice, which was completed in record time, and also congratulate Baba Basorun for having the chamber named after him. This is a testament to his remarkable leadership and enduring legacy.”
The commissioning event attracted dignitaries from across Lagos State, including the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos State Chairman, Hon. Cornelius Ojelabi; former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye; former Minister for Works, Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola; Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Hon. Wasiu Adesina; Executive Chairman of Ijede LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba; Executive Chairman of Ikorodu North LCDA, Bldr Adeola Banjo; and Executive Chairman of Imota LCDA, Prince Wasiu Agoro, among others.
The new legislative chamber represents a major step forward in infrastructural development for the Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA and further solidifies the legacy of Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Basorun, a towering figure in Lagos politics.
