On Monday, Senator Mukhail Adetokunbo Abiru, FCA, representing Lagos East Senatorial District, inspected the ongoing construction of the SAIL Innovation Lab and Sports Centre in Orimedu, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State.

This inspection comes just days after the Senator announced plans for road and school construction projects in Ikorodu.

The Sports Centre, designed to accommodate 350 people, will feature a standard football pitch, basketball court, and indoor games facilities, including table tennis and snooker.

The complex also includes changing rooms and a catering service area. The Innovation Lab section will seat up to 200 trainees at a time and includes both ground and first-floor operational offices.

Senator Abiru was accompanied on the site visit by key members of his team, including the Chief Impact Consultant for the SAIL Innovation Lab, Mr. Deji Abisola, his Media Aide, Mr. Enitan Olukotun, as well as prominent local leaders, including the Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, and the Chairman of Lekki Local Government Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali.

In his remarks following the inspection, Senator Abiru emphasized the project’s aim to foster youth creativity and innovation.

He highlighted the combination of sporting and technological resources at the facility, noting, “This facility is designed to harness the creativity of our resourceful youths. It will feature football, basketball, and indoor sports such as table tennis and snooker. More importantly, the SAIL Innovation Lab will provide a platform for young people to engage in innovation, technology, and digital skills development.”

He further explained that the training offered at the facility would mirror that of the main SAIL Innovation Lab in Ikorodu, stating, “The same faculty that trains our youth in Ikorodu will also be responsible for training here, ensuring that the benefits extend to the entire community.”

Hon. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LGA, expressed profound gratitude on behalf of the community, praising the Senator’s equitable leadership and commitment to youth development.

“On behalf of the people of Ibeju-Lekki, I want to express my deepest appreciation to the distinguished Senator for bringing this innovative project to our local government. The structures being built here are designed to support youth innovation, technology, and development,” he said.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, marking another significant contribution to youth empowerment and development in Lagos East.
