MRS. MOJISOLA OYESANYA ADOPTED AS ACTING IYA-OLOJA GENERAL OF IGBOGBO/BAIYEKU LCDA ~ INN Nigeria ☆

In a historic decision, the leadership of Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area (LCDA), in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs—represented by Mr. James Kakawa—and key traditional institutions, has unanimously adopted Mrs. Mojisola Oyesanya as the Acting Iya-Oloja General of the LCDA.

This resolution follows the recent passing of Chief Mrs. Rachel Asabi Obayomi, the former Iya-Oloja General, earlier this year.

Mr. James Kakawa, Director of Lagos State Market Development and Secretary to the Lagos State Market Advisory Board, outlined the transition process as stipulated by state regulations and federal law, emphasizing the local government’s role.

Kakawa explained that under these guidelines, the Deputy Iya-Oloja General is to assume the position of Acting Iya-Oloja General when the post is vacated due to an incumbent’s demise.

This interim arrangement provides the Market Association’s executive with ample time to deliberate and propose a new candidate to the LCDA for the permanent role.

“By constitutional design, the Market Association operates as an extension of the Local Government/LCDA. Before a new Iya-Oloja is appointed, the Market Association’s Executive body must select a candidate who is a prominent member and regular attendee of the Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA Market Advisory Council, among other criteria,” Mr. Kakawa stated.

“Once a decision is reached, the proposal is submitted to the LCDA for review, which considers the candidate’s qualifications and input from traditional institutions. The council ultimately holds the authority to approve the appointment.”

Mrs. Mojisola Oyesanya’s interim appointment is seen as a stabilizing force for the market community in Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.

As Acting Iya-Oloja General, she will oversee market operations, uphold order, and champion inclusivity and economic growth.

The late Chief Mrs. Rachel Asabi Obayomi, a revered matriarch, leaves a legacy of service and progress in the LCDA’s market sector.

The council meeting, held at the LCDA Secretariat, included the Executive Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Legislative representatives of Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA, management staff, supervisors, representatives from the Olubeshe of Ibeshe Kingdom and the Fidmolu of Elepe Kingdom, along with officers from the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force Ikorodu Division, as well as other stakeholders.

This development highlights the collaborative efforts of government bodies, traditional institutions, and community leaders in promoting sustainable governance and growth within Igbogbo/Baiyeku LCDA.
