The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has officially affirmed the appointment and installation of His Royal Majesty, Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, as the authentic Ayangburen of Ikorodu.
The unanimous judgment, delivered on Thursday, November 28, 2024, ends a protracted nine-year legal tussle surrounding the prestigious throne.
The appeal was filed by the Lambo branch of the Lasunwon Ruling House, challenging Oba Shotobi’s installation as the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
The appellate court, presided over by Hon. Justice Obande Ogbuinya, had earlier granted the appellants’ motion for an extension of time to file amended documents, which were subsequently presented during the final hearing.
In its ruling, the court dismissed the appeal, upholding the legitimacy of Oba Shotobi’s installation and confirming him as the rightful occupant of the Ayangburen stool.
The judgment brings to an end nearly a decade of contention over the traditional leadership of Ikorodu.
The decision reaffirms Oba Kabir Adewale Shotobi, who ascended the throne with the title Adegorusen V, as the authentic custodian of the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the Ikorodu Kingdom.
Oba Shotobi’s reign has been marked by transformative leadership, community development, and a commitment to preserving the historical and cultural legacy of the Ayangburen stool.
His legal victory further solidifies his role as a symbol of unity and progress in Ikorodu.
The ruling is expected to restore harmony and strengthen the trust and confidence of the people of Ikorodu in their revered traditional institution.
The Ayangburen palace expressed gratitude to the judiciary for its fair and just decision while calling for peaceful coexistence among all branches of the ruling house.
