The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has officially confirmed that the forthcoming local government elections will take place across the 20 Local Government Councils and the 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in 2025.
This announcement aims to address ongoing speculations and debates about the inclusion of LCDAs in the electoral process.
The confirmation was made by Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, the Lagos State APC Chairman, through a press release today.
The statement emphasized the vital role LCDAs have played in grassroots development and their indispensability to the state’s socio-economic and political growth.
Since their establishment, LCDAs have demonstrated immense value by fostering infrastructural and social development across Lagos State.
Pastor Ojelabi highlighted key contributions, such as the construction of roads, drainages, markets, schools, and housing projects.
LCDAs have also significantly improved primary education and healthcare delivery while collaborating with the state government on crucial issues like waste management, drain clearing, and security enhancement.
The APC Chairman noted the recent public discourse surrounding the desirability and relevance of LCDAs, as well as questions about their participation in local government elections.
He described the debates as “needless and distractive speculation” and reassured Lagosians that elections would proceed in both Local Government Councils and LCDAs.
“We hope this release will put paid to further speculations as regards the local government elections in order not to unnecessarily heat up the polity,” Pastor Ojelabi stated.
Pastor Ojelabi further called on APC members and Lagos residents to maintain peace and unity as the state prepares for the elections.
He expressed confidence that Lagos would continue to set the pace as a leading state in Nigeria.
This announcement reinforces the Lagos APC’s commitment to grassroots development and political inclusion, ensuring all stakeholders are adequately represented.
The elections, scheduled for 2025, are expected to sustain the progress achieved by both the Local Government Councils and LCDAs in the state.
